How to Set Your Trap Learn how to bait and set the classic mouse trap with the help of experts at VICTOR®. Once set, a rodent triggers the metal pedal, and the trap immediately springs closed to kill the mouse. Then, simply lift the rugged metal kill bar to dispose of the body. The trap can be disposed of, or reused many times over, at your discretion.

Target Unwanted Rodents Victor® Metal Pedal Mouse Traps are a time-tested solution for capturing the mice that have invaded your home or business. Mice are able to sneak inside buildings through the tiniest of spaces where they can spread disease and destroy your property.
Step-By-Step Guide The Metal Pedal is easy to set and use. Here’s how:
  1. Remove the arm bar from the staple.
  2. Move the arm bar to the back of the trap so it hangs over the back of the trap.
  3. Bait the trap with a high-protein substance, such as peanut butter, chocolate or hazelnut spread. Place the bait on the metal bait pedal using a Q-Tip, toothpick or another tool to mask your human scent.
  4. Pull the kill bar back and hold it in place with your thumb.
  5. Swing the arm bar over the kill bar and latch the bent end of the arm bar into the notch on the metal pedal as shown. Slowly release pressure from the kill bar until the arm bar has fully engaged and holds the kill bar securely.
  6. Place the trap wherever you’ve seen signs of rodent activity or along the wall where rodents like to travel. The baited end of the trap should be placed flush against the wall.
  7. After the mouse is caught, properly dispose of the dead rodent. The trap can either be discarded or reused.
step by step guide
Five Stars "I've tried other brands of traps, but so many times the mice eat the bait but the trap doesn't trigger. So the bait just becomes a regular meal for the mice. These Victor traps are easy to bait, easy to set, cheap enough to use everywhere, and most importantly, they work!" (Review from Dagarb) Read More Reviews »

Not as good as the victor red bar By Daniel

No these are not good traps compared to the victor red bar ones. I try to set them as sensitive as possible but still the mice eat the bait and without triggering them. So go for the other ones..

Response From Victor®
Kathryn : Consumer Relations Representative

Hello,

Thank you for taking the time to provide this feedback! We recommend baiting traps with only the amount of bait that will fit on the end of a toothpick. This way the rodents do not have the opportunity to eat and run. Please feel free to contact our Consumer Relations Team at 1-855-5-VICTOR (1-855-584-2867) with any questions.

Great Trap & Easy to Use By Joe

Easy to set, easy to bait, and works every time. Mouse dies quickly and painlessly. They are also easy to unset without setting them off. Great price too so if you want to just throw out the whole trap after catching a mouse, you don't break the bank. Best snap trap available today.

I didn´t understand how to set te bar on the metal mecanism. By Isaias

I revew the PDF of how to set the trap and I couldn't understand how to set the bar on the metal pedal mecanism. Do you introduce the bar on the hole in the metal pedal or you try to grab the little nail in it or both. I snap my fingers and I know it will work on a mouse. I learn more on the review that on the PDF panflet.

Best Traps Ever - A Customer For Life! By Lenny

These traps are the best and the only ones I buy. They catch mice like crazy! Their customer service is impeccable as well. I had a problem with an order that I received a few months ago. Most of the traps were broken in transit and hadn't realized until last week when I took them out of the box to use. I called a rep at Victor, explained what happened and they took care of me and send me new ones. This is what customer service is all about and the reason I'm a customer for life. Thank you Victor!

Just feeding the mice By JH

Set up four traps with dabs of peanut butter. Mice have licked them clean without setting off traps. I pick up the traps and they go off. These mice are outsmarting me. They're probably staring at me and laughing: "Ya right!". Victor should hire them for their Research and Developing department or maybe CEO.

Response From Victor®
Jennifer : Consumer Relations Representative

When baiting the trap, it is important to remember a little goes a long way. We recommend using a toothpick amount of peanut butter. Also, the traps should be placed against the wall where rodents primarily travel. The end of the trap where the
metal pedal is baited should be placed flush against the wall.

Junky new design By Victoria

Apparently these have been modified into an inferior design. I had a few (I guess) older model mouse traps that were working fine. I bought four more to spread around, not thinking the design would be any different. But these new ones are impossible to keep set, if you can latch the bar at all. Had one snap while I was baiting another one, with nothing triggering it. The second one snapped as I was trying to place it by sliding it ever-so-gently across the smooth floor. Both happened after several attempts at latching, including grabbing some pliers so the bar might stay put. They are going into the trash. I can catch air easily enough without a trap, but I guess it was fun while it lasted. I couldn't care less about a refund. I'll consider the price a lesson learned, and cherish my remaining old ones until wild mice are extinct. Anyone know where I can find some more old ones?

Trap By Belle

Poorly made new never use trap. Mouse eat the food off set trap.

Response From Victor®
Jennifer : Consumer Relations Representative

We apologize for this experience. How much bait was used? When baiting the trap it is important to remember a little goes a long way. We recommend baiting with a toothpick amount of peanut butter. Anything more than that, and the mouse may be able to eat the bait without getting caught in the trap.

Mouse search and rescue By Pat

Mice either feast on the peanut butter on the trap and go on their merry way or when we have caught a mouse it's still alive flipping around stuck in the trap. The last one ended up across our dining room. We had to do a search and rescue for it. We set it free and hopped away like nothing happened. We did catch/kill one but none since. Very disappointed in this product. If I can locate the receipt I'll call customer service. In the 21st century it shouldn't be this hard to kill a mouse.

Response From Victor®
Jennifer : Consumer Relations Representative

We are very sorry for this experience and appreciate the time taken to provide this feedback. The information has been shared with our Product Managers for further review.

When baiting the trap, it is important to use only a small, pea size amount of bait. We have found that peanut butter, or something high in protein (such as a hazelnut spread or chocolate) works well. Placement of the trap is also very important. We recommend placing the trap along the wall where rodents primarily travel. The end of the trap where the metal pedal is baited should be placed flush against the wall.

This product is covered by a 30 day return policy and a one year warranty with a copy of the purchase receipt. Please feel free to contact our Consumer Relations Team at 1-855-5-VICTOR (1-855-584-2867) with any questions or for additional assistance.

Q&A
Q.Do you mean to tell me that you could not invent a better trip for loading without one jeopardizing his/her fingers to load the trap? I thought you had better adaptness than that. I had to use two pliers in order to bait the trap in order to protect my fingers. What a shame on YOU.
A.

When assembling the trap, we recommend applying the bait before the trap is set. After the trap is set, it is designed to trigger when movement is detected on the metal pedal. Baiting the trap before it is set ensures the safety of the consumer.

Q.I have been using your snap traps for 45 years. I just bought another package. I cannot get the snap to lock down or not for long. When it does lock, it goes off in my hand or within seconds of setting it down. What is going on?
A.

Sometimes, setting the trap can be a balancing act. We recommend holding the kill bar in place with one finger, holding the metal pedal up with another finger, and latching the end of the arm bar on the metal pedal with your other hand.

For further assistance, please feel free to contact our Consumer Relations Team at 1-855-5-VICTOR (1-855-584-2867).

Q.What are the dimensions of the wooden base?
A.

The length is approximately 4 inches, the width is 1 3/4 inches and the height is 1/4 inches.

Q: What kind of bait do I use?

A: Individuals in a rodent population search for different types of food. For mice, anything high in protein like peanut butter, chocolate or hazelnut spread is a great option. Also, nesting materials like dental floss, cotton or string are also great options. Try to use whatever bait or nesting material the rodents are currently feeding on or using to build nests.

Q: Can the trap be reused?

A: The Victor® Metal Pedal Mouse Trap can be reused or disposed of. It is personal preference. Check the traps frequently to ensure the trap is emptied as soon as the mouse is captured and the traps will last longer. Please note that for personal hygiene and biohazard awareness, disposable gloves should always be worn when installing or recovering any traps.
