Victor® Solar Powered Sonic Spike

Safely send moles and gophers scurrying from your yard unharmed with this Victor® Solar Powered Sonic Spike. When placed in the ground, sonic pulses penetrate the soil, emitting a sound that is highly irritating to moles and gophers. For your convenience, the spike is built with a low-profile design that can be mowed over when properly installed. Plus, it’s safe to use around pets when used as directed. Note: It may take 7-14 days before moles and gophers start to move away from the target area.

Quickly Kills Moles

Drive Away Burrowing Pests

With Victor® Solar Powered Sonic Spikes, you can keep your yard mole and gopher free without poison. So how does it work? Every 30 seconds, sonic pulses penetrate the soil, emitting a frequency with is irritating to burrowing pests. Moles and gophers are virtually blind and extremely sensitive to sound and vibrations, meaning they will be discouraged from remaining on or returning to your property while this method is active.

Long-Lasting Solar Charge

Cloudy day in the forecast? No worries. One full solar charge will last up to 5 days to keep protecting your yard even during a few days of overcast skies. No batteries are required to operate the Solar Powered Sonic Spike, so you never need to worry about changing dead batteries.

Solar Powered
Large Coverage Area

Large Coverage Area

For your convenience, each Solar Powered Sonic Spike™ offers up to 7,500 square feet of coverage, providing plenty of coverage for many backyard settings. The sonic frequencies radiate from the spike in a circular pattern, approximately 95 feet in diameter.

How to Use

The Victor® Solar Powered Sonic Spike is incredibly easy to use. Simply follow these four easy steps to protect your yard from burrowing pests.

  1. Use a wood stake or steel rod to make a pilot hole prior to inserting spike into the ground.
  2. Insert the spike until the bottom of the spike head touches the ground. It needs to be surface level to prevent it from being tripped over or hit with a lawnmower.
  3. To activate the spike, slide the switch to the “ON” position.
  4. Remove Solar Powered Sonic Spike when flooding may occur or before the ground freezes.

Bought in fall of last year, never used until this spring. It buzzes as it should but has no effect on moles. Save your money and buy foot traps which I did this spring after finding out this was a waisted $30.00, they do work have got 4 already. The moles even pushed this over and continued to work around it. Now that I have it out of the ground I can’t shut it off, the on off switch doesn’t work either.

Thank you for sharing your experience. We're sorry to hear that the Solar Powered Sonic Spike did not provide the results you expected. Mole activity can vary significantly depending on soil conditions, property size, mole populations, and other environmental factors, so results may differ from one location to another. We understand your frustration, especially after observing continued mole activity near the unit. We're also sorry to hear about the issue with the power switch. Your comments regarding both the effectiveness of the product and the switch performance are valuable and will be shared with our product team for review. We appreciate you taking the time to provide your feedback.
These spikes work well in ...

These spikes work well in combination with the larger D battery powered spikes spread around the perimeter of my yard. On occasion I will deploy these around to other areas to ward off moles because my neighbors neither treat or take care of their yards. I have 12 of these and 2 no longer work because they are full of water with no way to drain it. That’s why I gave it a 4. The button change is better too, you can feel it without having to pull the stakes out. Moles are a challenge and $300 and a lot of strategy they are gone…it’s not an easy problem to solve and requires some patience.

Works fine. It stopped moles from crossing from several neighbors' yards into mine. I do suggest that Victor create a better on/off switch.

ON/OFF button not designed well.

The ON/OFF button is a push button that has no indication if the product is actually on or off. If there were separate ON and OFF buttons or if it were a slide button, you would have a better idea if it’s actually on. You can wait 30 seconds and listen for a buzz, but if it doesn’t buzz, you don’t know if there hasn’t been enough ‘solar’ yet for power or if it’s simply not on. I have two spikes. One is buzzing. I can't get the other one to buzz. Too soon to tell if the working one will actually repel the little pests.

I only installed the unit ...

I only installed the unit yesterday, but as others have stated, it almost appears to increase mole activity rather than deter it - particularly in close proximity to the unit itself. But I have a theory about this. Back when I was a boy and there were plans to go fishing, we used to water the lawn around dusk, then go out after midnight and try to grab all the worms that had come to the surface. This was not as easy as it sounds, as there were many life and death tugs of war between my fingers and the slimy worm that the worm most often won. Then along came an invention, (back in the '60s), to make the task my easier: two metal rods connected by a simple, two-foot long wire, and atop each rod, a D cell battery. You would stick the two rods into the ground, push the button, and within seconds, all the subterranean worms within a two-foot radius, would come to the surface. So, in short, my theory is that the sonic spike activates the worms in much the same way - which is why Mr. Mole seems most active near the spike. I've also noticed that robins are also now a constant presence in my garden, no doubt due to the new, easy access to worms. So, that's my theory. Either way, the instructions clearly state to give the unit a couple of weeks to do its job, and that's fine with me. In the meantime, I'll have plenty of worms for fishing.

Save your money! These devices do not work. I have had very good luck with the very simple gopher traps you can buy as a set at home Depot. You place one in each direction of the hole and you must tie them down with wire. Other things that do not work include the castor oil/mint concoction, various poisons--even those that look like little worms. Good luck! Persistence pays off. I've caught 11 gophers this season since I started to kill them rather than evict them.

I bought last spring, and the unit stopped working over the winter months. I'm not sure the moles are gone either as I continued to see new trails and mole hills on my lawn when the unit was still working in the fall. It did not say anything in the instructions that i should remove it during the winter months.

Bye moles!

My front yard was overrun with moles. I tried everything to get rid of them. I was highly skeptical that this would work, but it got rid all all mole activity! I am buying another because my son just ran ours over with the lawn mower. Tips: -It takes a couple of weeks for it to really work. I think activity got worse before better -Ensure it is tight in the hole. I think I put it in a hole that was too big and the spike was not in contact with the soil enough. Once I put it really tight, it seems to have worked quickly. Only thing that has worked and will continue to use!

Sorry to hear about this experience! Moles and gophers can’t see well, meaning they are very sensitive to sound and vibrations. Initially it is common for them to try investigating the source of the disturbance, even tunneling close to the spike, trying to figure out what is causing the noise. Normally, a decrease in activity should be seen in about 7-14 days. The spikes are covered under a 30-day return policy. Please give us a call directly at 855-584-2867 for assistance.

Answer by: Lauren Potter on May 31, 2022, 11:54 AM
I just purchased a solar-powered repeller spike today. Can I install it into a mulched flower bed? Will it still be effective if inserted into mulch? Or does it absolutely need to be into soil?
Question by: Eileen on Apr 24, 2026, 8:12 PM
Thank you for contacting us. Regarding your question, it must be used in accordance with the instructions for use, which state that it must be inserted directly into the soil.
Answer by: Melissa (Admin) on Apr 27, 2026, 9:08 AM
I bought 4 solar sonics in May and two have very low sound you really can’t hear them
Question by: Ken haungs on Sep 24, 2025, 2:12 PM
The sound emitted by solar sonic devices is typically muffled and may not be clearly audible above ground. This is normal, as the sound is designed to travel through the ground to deter burrowing pests. If you suspect a malfunction, please ensure the units are placed correctly and receiving adequate sunlight
