I bought two M9014 solar sonic spikes. One gives a clean sound, probably around 500 Hz. The other gives a sound that has mixed frequencies, sounds almost a bit like a "rattle" in there. Does this imply that the second spike is faulty? Or is this just a normal variation in the product?

The main sound output is in the 42 KHz neighborhood. There are all sorts of harmonic tones and frequency ranges that are a side effect of the main sound.
