Victor® Easy Set® Rat Trap - A New Twist on a Classic Design

Simplify rodent control with the Victor® Easy Set® Rat Trap. Using the original wooden snap trap design with an improved larger trip pedal to ensure higher catch rates, this trap will help you to effectively eliminate rodents around your household or business. Two settings, Firm and Sensitive, allow you to control the sensitivity of the trap. In addition, these traps require no chemicals or poisons. For best results, rat traps should be placed where rodents travel, such as along walls at 2-3 ft intervals.

Expanded Trigger Rod

Expanded Trigger Plate

The Easy Set® Rat Trap enhances the classic snap trap design by adding a large plastic trigger plate to ensure higher catch rates. The expanded size means it can be easily activated both by rodent interest in food and through accidental contact as rats scamper across the floor.

Quick & Effective

Once a rodent triggers the pedal, the Easy Set® Rat Trap immediately springs closed to eliminate the pest on contact. After a catch, simply throw away the entire trap for quick and clean removal or dispose of the rat and reuse the trap.

Easy 4 step setup

Easy 4-Step Setup

For your convenience, the Victor® Easy Set® Rat Trap is very easy to use. Get your trap set up by following these four simple steps:

  1. Release the Arm Bar - Remove the staple and hang the arm over the back of the trap.
  2. Bait the Trap - While the trap is pre-baited with a scent, apply bait on the plastic pedal for best results. Use a high-protein bait such as peanut butter or hazelnut spread.
  3. Set the Trap - Pull back the kill bar and hold it securely with your thumb. Place the arm bar over the kill bar and secure it under the plastic pedal. Take note of the Firm and Sensitive setting. The trap will be easier to set on the firm side, but not trip as easy. The trap will be more difficult to set on the sensitive side, but trip very easily.
  4. Place the Trap - Locate an area with high rodent activity or place the trap along the wall. The trap should be perpendicular to the wall with the yellow trigger plate flush against the baseboard.

Environmentally Responsible Materials

Not only will the Victor® Easy Set® Rat Trap help you eliminate your rodent problem, you can feel satisfied in knowing that it is sourced from environmentally responsible materials. It is constructed of Forest Stewardship Council® certified wood.

Helpfulness
It gets one star for ...

It gets one star for actually catching a rat. However, this design is terrible. The trap does not want to set, it wants to slip out and attack my fingers. There's no "catch" for the hold down bar to nestle into or against that would allow you to set it and place it safely. Instead there's just a wide open space that the bar barely connects with and you brace yourself for the sudden slip and bang. It took many attempts and many sudden snaps before I was able to finally slide it into place without it triggering just from the movement.

Staples pull out from tension.

Apr 14, 2025
If rat trap is set more than 2-3 days outside the staples pull out. First was the long trigger arm (made one and used a fence staple to hold it in place), then the staple beside the trap spring pulled out the same day. The tension is to strong for the staples!

poor quality / durability of the yellow plastic pedal
1
Apr 9, 2025
In the last month I have bought four of these traps. On three of them, the yellow plastic pedal broke (in one case it shattered completely) the first or second time the trap snapped closed. It appears the trap cannot be set if the pedal is even partially broken, so I have three useless traps (at approx. $4 a piece), and it appears Victor does not sell or provide replacement pedals. Unfortunate, because these traditional traps generally have been the most successful means of controlling rats around my homes. We will see how the fourth trap holds-up. The old-style metal bait bars were much better.

Very Unreliable

Mar 26, 2025
Bought two, one of which the plastic pedal broke after the second trip. Four trips in two nights yielded one injured (not dead) rat. The broken trap may have been chewed by rats to the point it broke. Peanut butter as bait melted and spread in warm weather but why rats can damage the trap (as opposed to the other way around) is a design flaw.

I have several of the pedal rat traps. When set to either the soft or firm side the pedal touches the wood base and will not snap. I never had this problem with the old metal pedal. I am completely disappointed.

The new plastic paddles SUCK.

The new plastic paddles SUCK. Why change a design that used to work so well?

This is a horrible design.

Mar 4, 2025
This is a horrible design. It is not safe and can/will cause pain and injury if you're not SUPER EXTRA CAREFUL. The Plastic Pedal is poorly designed and won't hold the Arm Bar. The "Kill Bar" is way too strong for this type of application. Now I have to go out and find another brand that is easy to use and won't break my fingers. So much for trusted brands — one that I've been using for over 40 years. PS: if you redesign this, please focus more on the pedal that holds the bait.

This paddle type rat trap is awful
1
Feb 2, 2025
This paddle type rat trap is awful. Even set to the most sensitive the animal will literally eat the bait off the paddle. And if it goes off and misses, the paddle cracks and can't be reset to try again. Go back to the metal pedal folks!

Q&A

Can you still get the traps with the copper triggers? I have tried the new and there has been a very low success rate for the new pedal trigger. Please go back to the older type, even if it cost more the success rate will make up for it. Maybe give the customer a choice.
Question by: Earl Trail on Dec 7, 2024, 5:57 PM
Thank you for sharing your feedback regarding the rat traps with the new pedal trigger.

Unfortunately, the rat traps with the copper pedal trigger have been discontinued and are no longer available. We understand your concerns, and we truly appreciate your input about the lower success rate of the newer model. Your feedback is important to us, and we will certainly look into it to see if improvements can be made.

I have one of these and the trigger mechanism no longer gets released even though the pedal is completely depressed by a rat. I've tried setting it on both firm and sensitive with same result.
Question by: Clayton Zinnecker on Dec 7, 2024, 8:12 PM
Thank you for reaching out to us regarding your Victor® Wide Pedal Rat Trap.

I’m sorry to hear that the trigger mechanism is not releasing, even when the pedal is fully depressed. Since you've already tried adjusting the sensitivity settings without success, this could indicate a mechanical issue.

We recommend checking a few things:

Hi, We have several Victor rat traps( the large ones) that do not have the bait stage anymore. Do you sell them separately, either the yellow ones or the metal bait stage. Thanks.
Question by: Mariano Roy Duya on Feb 5, 2025, 3:22 AM
Thank you very much for contacting us. It would be our pleasure to assist you.

Unfortunately, we do not offer the bait stage as a separate item for purchase.

If you need further assistance, please feel free to reach out.
Answer by: Karla Chavez (Admin) on Feb 5, 2025, 11:03 AM
Does Victor make rat traps with the metal bait pedal anymore? I have found that the rat traps with the large yellow pedal are too sensitive and continually snap before I can even set them in place. I have tried to use both the sensitive and not sensitive settings based on which side of the pedal you put the trigger on. The pedal will still drop down as the trap is being set flat and snap. I thought the metal pedal version worked much better, didn't have issues with it snapping shut when setting down. Thanks, Zak
Question by: Zak on May 5, 2025, 12:32 PM
Thank you for reaching out! The Victor® Metal Pedal Rat Trap (M201) has been officially discontinued and is now obsolete. As a result, this product is no longer available for order or replenishment.

How to set trap

Below you will find a link to a video showing how to set the trap.

https://www.victorpest.com/victor-wide-metal-pedal-rat-trap-m205
Answer by: Guillermo (Admin) on Dec 2, 2024, 2:21 PM
1. Release the arm bar from the staple.
2. Move the arm bar to the back of the trap so it
hangs over the back of the trap.
3. Apply a small amount of peanut butter or
anything high in protein like chocolate or
hazelnut spread to the yellow pedal on the trap
as shown. Be sure to use a Q-tip, toothpick
or another tool to bait so your scent is not
transferred onto the trap. Please note that this
trap is pre-baited with the scented, cheese
pedal, but adding additional bait will increase
your chances of a catch.
4. Pull the kill bar back and hold in place with
your thumb.
5. Take the arm bar over the kill bar and latch the
end of the arm bar under the elevated yellow
pedal. (Be sure to lift the yellow pedal slightly
when setting.) Please take note to the Firm
and Sensitive setting. The trap will be easier to
set on the firm side, but not trip as easily. The
trap will be more difficult to set on the
sensitive side and trip very easily.
6. Place the trap where you have seen signs of
rodent activity or along the wall where rodents
primarily travel. The end of the trap where the
yellow pedal is baited should be placed flush
against the wall.
7. After the rat is caught, properly dispose of
the dead rodent. The trap can either be
discarded or reused.
