How to Set the Victor® Metal Pedal Rat Trap

  1. Release the Arm Bar - Remove the staple and move it so the arm hangs over the back of the trap.
  2. Bait the Trap - Apply a high-protein bait, such as peanut butter or hazelnut spread, to the metal bait pedal. Use a Q-tip, toothpick or other tool to avoid transferring your scent.
  3. Hold Securely - Pull the kill bar back and hold it in place with your thumb.
  4. Set the Trap - Swing the arm bar over the kill bar and latch the bent end of the arm bar into the pedal's notch. Slowly release pressure from the kill bar until the arm bar holds the kill bar securely

Location, Location, Location

Set the baited trap in areas where you have noticed high levels of rodent activity. Rodents tend to travel along walls, so placement in this location often works best. For maximum effectiveness, use multiple traps, placed at 2 to 3 foot intervals to increase results. Place the trap with the baited end of the trap flush against the wall.

Five Stars

"Wow what a great product! I thought I needed a professional to get rid of my rat problem, but a few Victor rat traps get the job done. I don't know about other Victor products as the classic rat trap is my 1st purchase, but man does it work well! Just bait it with some peanut butter and these rodents don't stand a chance against the power of the kill bar. 10/10 product, thank you guys for providing us with such a cheap and effective way to make our lives better!"

Rat Trap Instructions
  1. Release the arm bar from the staple.
  2. Move the arm bar to the back of the trap so it hangs over the back of the trap.
  3. Apply a small amount of high-protein bait, such as peanut butter, hazelnut spread or bacon to the metal pedal on the trap as shown. Use a Q-tip, toothpick or another tool to bait so your scent is not transferred onto the trap.
  4. Pull the kill bar back and hold it in place with your thumb.
  5. Take the arm bar over the kill bar and latch the end of the arm bar on the metal pedal as shown.
  6. Place the trap where you have seen signs of rodent activity or along the wall where rodents primarily travel. The end of the trap where the metal pedal is baited should be placed flush against the wall.
  7. After the rat is caught, properly dispose of the dead rodent. The trap can either be discarded or reused.

Product Questions

I have rats in my attic, and I successfully caught two of them using this type of trap. I am continuing to bait traps throughout the attic, but now when I check them, I see that the peanut butter is licked clean but that the rodents are either not triggering the traps, or the trap is triggered but is not trapping anything. Maybe I have mice. Are mice small and light enough that they can eat the bait from a rat trap but not be caught? What other explanation could there be?
Question by: John on Jan 19, 2019, 7:00 PM
Mice may be small enough that they are not triggering the trap. We recommend using only a small amount of bait, approximately what fits on the end of a toothpick, to minimize the chance of rodent taking the bait without setting off a trap.

I've heard if u leave dead gopher in its hole after trapping it, it will cause other gophers to leave.  Is this true for rats?  Or should I otherwise dispose of dead rats?
Question by: Rodney on Aug 4, 2016, 8:00 PM
I set the trap , in the morning the trap was sprung but the rat was laying dead 2 feet away from the trap with no visible signs of being hurt.. how does that happen ?????
Question by: Dave on Jul 21, 2020, 8:00 PM
The rodent may have died from other causes, but the trap is most likely.

Do these traps need to be cleaned before reuse? If so... what's the best way? What's the best way to get human scent off these traps?
Question by: Anthony on Oct 2, 2017, 8:00 PM
The traps do not need to be cleaned after each kill. When handling the traps, we recommend wearing gloves to keep human scent off of the trap. To clean, we recommend warm water and an unscented dish detergent.
