Victor® Easy Set® Rat Trap - A New Twist on a Classic Design

Simplify rodent control with the Victor® Easy Set® Rat Trap. Using the original wooden snap trap design with an improved larger trip pedal to ensure higher catch rates, this trap will help you to effectively eliminate rodents around your household or business. Two settings, Firm and Sensitive, allow you to control the sensitivity of the trap. In addition, these traps require no chemicals or poisons. For best results, rat traps should be placed where rodents travel, such as along walls at 2-3 ft intervals.

Expanded Trigger Rod

Expanded Trigger Plate

The Easy Set® Rat Trap enhances the classic snap trap design by adding a large plastic trigger plate to ensure higher catch rates. The expanded size means it can be easily activated both by rodent interest in food and through accidental contact as rats scamper across the floor.

Quick & Effective

Once a rodent triggers the pedal, the Easy Set® Rat Trap immediately springs closed to eliminate the pest on contact. After a catch, simply throw away the entire trap for quick and clean removal or dispose of the rat and reuse the trap.

Easy 4 step setup

Easy 4-Step Setup

For your convenience, the Victor® Easy Set® Rat Trap is very easy to use. Get your trap set up by following these four simple steps:

  1. Release the Arm Bar - Remove the staple and hang the arm over the back of the trap.
  2. Bait the Trap - While the trap is pre-baited with a scent, apply bait on the plastic pedal for best results. Use a high-protein bait such as peanut butter or hazelnut spread.
  3. Set the Trap - Pull back the kill bar and hold it securely with your thumb. Place the arm bar over the kill bar and secure it under the plastic pedal. Take note of the Firm and Sensitive setting. The trap will be easier to set on the firm side, but not trip as easy. The trap will be more difficult to set on the sensitive side, but trip very easily.
  4. Place the Trap - Locate an area with high rodent activity or place the trap along the wall. The trap should be perpendicular to the wall with the yellow trigger plate flush against the baseboard.

Environmentally Responsible Materials

Not only will the Victor® Easy Set® Rat Trap help you eliminate your rodent problem, you can feel satisfied in knowing that it is sourced from environmentally responsible materials. It is constructed of Forest Stewardship Council® certified wood.

Helpfulness
This paddle type rat trap is awful
1
Feb 2, 2025
This paddle type rat trap is awful. Even set to the most sensitive the animal will literally eat the bait off the paddle. And if it goes off and misses, the paddle cracks and can't be reset to try again. Go back to the metal pedal folks!

I'vbe used these traps for years. So I was disappointed with the ones with plastic plates. I bought two and both are exceptionally hard to set. In fact, I couldn't get one to work at all. Instead, I ordered the original ones with the metal catch. I can hope that these work as well as the ones I have used in the past.

So, is anything being done to correct the design disaster that everyone is complaining about? I ordered a set of 4 on Amazon. Setting them is an accidental waiting to happen. After setting them outside baited but not triggered for a few nights, the rats were used to and eating the bait. Over the next four nights, the rats would trip the kill bar without being in the kill zone. They even chewed the plastic pads to get all the peanut butter off, rendering the trap (more) useless. We have to bring the traps in before dawn so we don't harm any squirrels but usually they have already been triggered. We had one kill but the rat was lying frozen beside the triggered trap so not sure how that occurred. I would not buy these again.

DON'T BUY the snap rat ...

DON'T BUY the snap rat trap unless you want smashed fingers after cussing fits trying to set this shjtty trap. I bought 4 or these at ace hardware They kept mauling fingers instead of staying set too TRIPPY! You can't catch a rat if the trap won't stay set. Attempting to set four traps, I snapped fingers at least 12 times and the fourth one NEVER WOULD STAY SET !!! The plastic tab is useless it has practically nothing no groove to hold the latching bar in place. I would give this a ZERO RATING if one was available. They should pay me $50 dollars for the damage to my fingers!

Too difficult to set

These new traps with the plastic are extremely difficult to set, even on the "F/firm" position. I do not recommend them at all. Are the traps with the metal trigger still made and available???

Jan 15, 2025
I have used VicTor Rat Traps for probably 65 years and never had a problem with any of them. This new wide pedal Rat Trap is very touchy and difficult to set without endangering your fingers. It also did not kill the first night I used it. Had to shoot the poor rat with my pistol. I would like to get the old style metal trigger RAT Traps. When I complained at the ACE hardware where I bought the traps (I bought two Rat Traps and four plastic trigger mouse traps) the man said he had many complaints about the new plastic triggered ones. Whoever decided to use the plastic ruined the very effective traps that I've used for years. The plastic mouse trap wood split the first time it went off and did not catch the mouse.

If I could give it 0 or a negative star, I would. This is an awful trap. Why the plastic bait tray? It does not hold and it is dangerous. Bring back the original. I would not be surprised to see an ambulance chaser lawyer sue you because someone got his fingers destroyed.

Plastic Rat Traps are worthless
1
Dec 21, 2024
After using the old metal pedal traps for 20 years with zero problems, I used one of these plastic ones for the first time today and it nearly got my finger crushed in the trap trying to set it.  These traps are unacceptably difficult to set and dangerous as hell because the plastic pedal doesn't hold the release lever at all regardless of the Firm or Sensitive setting, the design is garbage and unsafe.  Just unbelievable that they took something that was tried and true and worked perfectly and turned it into a useless piece of garbage.  These plastic traps are just worthless.   Victor must have a lot of excess management without enough to do so they dream up crap like this. If I could, I would give 0 stars or negative 5 stars. #UNREAL !

This trap works well until the bait platform gets stolen by pack rats… the clip on the platform is several thousands of an inch too open and it comes off the staple too easily.

Q&A

Can you still get the traps with the copper triggers? I have tried the new and there has been a very low success rate for the new pedal trigger. Please go back to the older type, even if it cost more the success rate will make up for it. Maybe give the customer a choice.
Question by: Earl Trail on Dec 7, 2024, 5:57 PM
Thank you for sharing your feedback regarding the rat traps with the new pedal trigger.

Unfortunately, the rat traps with the copper pedal trigger have been discontinued and are no longer available. We understand your concerns, and we truly appreciate your input about the lower success rate of the newer model. Your feedback is important to us, and we will certainly look into it to see if improvements can be made.

I have one of these and the trigger mechanism no longer gets released even though the pedal is completely depressed by a rat. I've tried setting it on both firm and sensitive with same result.
Question by: Clayton Zinnecker on Dec 7, 2024, 8:12 PM
Thank you for reaching out to us regarding your Victor® Wide Pedal Rat Trap.

I’m sorry to hear that the trigger mechanism is not releasing, even when the pedal is fully depressed. Since you've already tried adjusting the sensitivity settings without success, this could indicate a mechanical issue.

We recommend checking a few things:

Hi, We have several Victor rat traps( the large ones) that do not have the bait stage anymore. Do you sell them separately, either the yellow ones or the metal bait stage. Thanks.
Question by: Mariano Roy Duya on Feb 5, 2025, 3:22 AM
Thank you very much for contacting us. It would be our pleasure to assist you.

Unfortunately, we do not offer the bait stage as a separate item for purchase.

If you need further assistance, please feel free to reach out.

How to set trap

Below you will find a link to a video showing how to set the trap.

https://www.victorpest.com/victor-wide-metal-pedal-rat-trap-m205
Answer by: Guillermo (Admin) on Dec 2, 2024, 2:21 PM
1. Release the arm bar from the staple.
2. Move the arm bar to the back of the trap so it
hangs over the back of the trap.
3. Apply a small amount of peanut butter or
anything high in protein like chocolate or
hazelnut spread to the yellow pedal on the trap
as shown. Be sure to use a Q-tip, toothpick
or another tool to bait so your scent is not
transferred onto the trap. Please note that this
trap is pre-baited with the scented, cheese
pedal, but adding additional bait will increase
your chances of a catch.
4. Pull the kill bar back and hold in place with
your thumb.
5. Take the arm bar over the kill bar and latch the
end of the arm bar under the elevated yellow
pedal. (Be sure to lift the yellow pedal slightly
when setting.) Please take note to the Firm
and Sensitive setting. The trap will be easier to
set on the firm side, but not trip as easily. The
trap will be more difficult to set on the
sensitive side and trip very easily.
6. Place the trap where you have seen signs of
rodent activity or along the wall where rodents
primarily travel. The end of the trap where the
yellow pedal is baited should be placed flush
against the wall.
7. After the rat is caught, properly dispose of
the dead rodent. The trap can either be
discarded or reused.
