Victor® Easy Set® Rat Trap - A New Twist on a Classic Design

Simplify rodent control with the Victor® Easy Set® Rat Trap. Using the original wooden snap trap design with an improved larger trip pedal to ensure higher catch rates, this trap will help you to effectively eliminate rodents around your household or business. Two settings, Firm and Sensitive, allow you to control the sensitivity of the trap. In addition, these traps require no chemicals or poisons. For best results, rat traps should be placed where rodents travel, such as along walls at 2-3 ft intervals.

Expanded Trigger Rod

Expanded Trigger Plate

The Easy Set® Rat Trap enhances the classic snap trap design by adding a large plastic trigger plate to ensure higher catch rates. The expanded size means it can be easily activated both by rodent interest in food and through accidental contact as rats scamper across the floor.

Quick & Effective

Once a rodent triggers the pedal, the Easy Set® Rat Trap immediately springs closed to eliminate the pest on contact. After a catch, simply throw away the entire trap for quick and clean removal or dispose of the rat and reuse the trap.

Easy 4 step setup

Easy 4-Step Setup

For your convenience, the Victor® Easy Set® Rat Trap is very easy to use. Get your trap set up by following these four simple steps:

  1. Release the Arm Bar - Remove the staple and hang the arm over the back of the trap.
  2. Bait the Trap - While the trap is pre-baited with a scent, apply bait on the plastic pedal for best results. Use a high-protein bait such as peanut butter or hazelnut spread.
  3. Set the Trap - Pull back the kill bar and hold it securely with your thumb. Place the arm bar over the kill bar and secure it under the plastic pedal. Take note of the Firm and Sensitive setting. The trap will be easier to set on the firm side, but not trip as easy. The trap will be more difficult to set on the sensitive side, but trip very easily.
  4. Place the Trap - Locate an area with high rodent activity or place the trap along the wall. The trap should be perpendicular to the wall with the yellow trigger plate flush against the baseboard.

Environmentally Responsible Materials

Not only will the Victor® Easy Set® Rat Trap help you eliminate your rodent problem, you can feel satisfied in knowing that it is sourced from environmentally responsible materials. It is constructed of Forest Stewardship Council® certified wood.

Bring back the old style traps with the metal trigger. These do not stay set as the plastic bends over time.

We’re sorry to hear this trap did not meet your expectations. We appreciate your feedback regarding the trigger design and understand your preference for the previous metal trigger style. For best performance, please make sure the trap is being set on a flat surface and that the pedal is pressed firmly until the locking bar is fully engaged. Keeping the trap clean and free of debris can also help ensure proper function over time. Customer feedback like this is valuable as we continue to improve our products.

I’ve read some of these review's that are only one star and wonder if there is a little user error. I just killed a sewer rat that had to be three pounds. If you know what the f*ck you are doing this thing is going to break that rat’s neck so fast it won’t know what hit it.

Safety Issue - Don’t put your fingers near this ‘Misfire’
1
Apr 24, 2026
I had immense issue with setting this trap (almost snapped my fingers multiple times) - went online to see if I was missing something. I was not missing something. This trap itself is a ‘misfire’ - I appreciate the responses to customer reviews, but it’s time to take the ‘L’ on this one. I write this review out of a concern for collective safety as I don’t think it should be on the shelves.

Thanks for taking the time to share this. We’re really sorry to hear about your experience, and we understand your concerns around safety. We’ll be sure to pass your feedback along to the appropriate team. These traps are designed with a high sensitivity to ensure effectiveness, but that can make them feel difficult to set if you’re not familiar with the mechanism. We always recommend keeping fingers clear of the strike area and setting the trap from behind the trigger whenever possible. That said, it should not feel unsafe to operate. We appreciate you raising this concern. Feedback like yours is important and helps drive improvements.
Don’t stay set

I would rather pay an extra 50¢ and have them go back to the old version. New ones do not stay set no matter how much bait I use or how many times I try. I have 3 of them now, all the same. Don’t work. Sometimes stay set for a few seconds then SNAP!! Complete garbage. Very disappointed. I’m sure it’s to save a few cents but come on, you are going to lose more customers due to this. The penny’s you save are not worth the customer loss I guarantee that.

We’re sorry to hear about your experience with the Victor® Wide Pedal Rat Trap and appreciate you sharing this feedback. The trap should hold firmly when set, so what you’re describing is not expected performance. Make sure the bait is placed in the designated bait cup and avoid overfilling, as too much bait can interfere with the trigger. When setting the trap, pull the kill bar back firmly and secure it under the trigger pedal until it locks in place. Placing the trap along a wall where rodent activity is present can also help improve results.
Won’t stay set

Won’t stay set like the old versions did. The plastic part slips right off the arming lever. I got lucky a few times but it eventually slipped off after 30 seconds or so of being under tension. I am sure they are doing this to save money but they are losing my business with these. I have been using the old version for many years but will now have to switch unfortunately.

We’re sorry to hear about your experience with the Victor® Wide Pedal Rat Trap. We understand how important it is for the trap to stay securely set, especially if you’ve had success with previous versions. To help improve performance, we recommend making sure the metal arming bar is properly positioned under the plastic pedal tab and that the pedal is pressed down firmly until it locks into place. Using a small amount of bait placed toward the back of the pedal can also help ensure proper trigger tension. Additionally, placing the trap along a wall where rodents naturally travel can improve results and reduce disturbances that may cause it to slip.

Junk. Metal traps were easy to set and worked well. With 2.2 stars for 166 reviews someone is not getting the message.

We’re sorry to hear this product didn’t meet your expectations. That’s definitely frustrating. This trap is designed with a different mechanism than traditional metal traps, which can take a little getting used to when it comes to setting and placement. That said, it should still be reliable and effective when used as intended, so your experience is not what we want for our customers. We also take feedback like yours seriously. Reviews are closely monitored and shared with our product team to identify where improvements are needed, whether that’s ease of use or overall performance. We appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback.

We’re sorry to hear about your experience and appreciate you sharing your feedback. This is not the experience we want for our customers. When setting the trap, here are a few tips that may help make the process easier and more effective: - Place the trap on a flat, stable surface to keep it steady while setting. - Use your thumb to press the pedal down slowly and firmly until it locks into place. - Keep your fingers clear of the strike bar while setting to avoid injury. - Applying steady, even pressure instead of quick force can help the trap set more smoothly.
I'm never eager to bash ...

I'm never eager to bash a product but this one truly deserves it. I have trusted Victor products for years and recently bought traps to catch an infiltrator. I bought the wide pedal rat traps with the yellow plastic trigger on them. The first thing I noticed (after it snapped on my fingers) was the rod appeared to be too short to set the trap without it going off by itself. I tried being the tip slightly and was able to bait it and place it. The rat ate the peanut butter and the trap never sprung. I bent the rod back again and it seemed the combined weight of the plastic trigger and the peanut butter bait was too much for it to stay up. It would not set no matter what. I then got the idea to place a cotton ball underneath to support it and as it turned out, he ate the peanut butter and pulled the cotton out and it STILL did not spring closed. I emailed the company with a possible solution and never heard back from them. I assume they are inundated with bad reviews over it so they never answered my email. This morning after seeing that the bait had been stolen without trapping the animal, I drove to Lowes looking for an alternative. They had the same traps I had already bought, and they also had a "Tomcat" brand Rat Snap Trap. Black plastic with plastic teeth like a bear trap. The spring is very powerful, and it held the bait just fine without deploying. I am sure this will work as designed and my visitor will be dispatched without further incident. If they decide to return my email I will tell them how to fix the problem.

Thanks for taking the time to share such a detailed review. We understand how frustrating this experience must have been, especially after having trusted Victor products in the past. It sounds like the trap you purchased, the Victor Wide Pedal Rat Trap, did not perform as expected. The issue you described with the sensitivity of the trigger and difficulty setting the trap is not how the product is designed to function. When set properly, the trap should hold bait securely and trigger with minimal pressure. A couple of small adjustments can sometimes help improve performance. Using only a very small amount of bait (a thin smear rather than a large portion) can prevent added weight from interfering with the trigger, and ensuring the metal rod is properly aligned in the trigger notch can also make a difference. That said, needing to modify or bend components is not something you should have to do. We also hear your concern about not receiving a response to your email, and that’s not the experience we aim to provide. Your feedback is genuinely helpful, and we’ll be sure to share it with our product team as we continue to evaluate and improve our designs.

Thank you for your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that this trap didn’t meet your expectations. We understand your frustration, especially if you’ve had better success with traditional metal traps in the past. Different environments and rodent behavior can impact performance, and we know how important it is to have a solution you can rely on. Your comments are valuable, and we’ll be sure to share them with our product team as we continue to evaluate and improve our designs.

Q&A

Can you still get the traps with the copper triggers? I have tried the new and there has been a very low success rate for the new pedal trigger. Please go back to the older type, even if it cost more the success rate will make up for it. Maybe give the customer a choice.
Question by: Earl Trail on Dec 7, 2024, 5:57 PM
Thank you for sharing your feedback regarding the rat traps with the new pedal trigger.

Unfortunately, the rat traps with the copper pedal trigger have been discontinued and are no longer available. We understand your concerns, and we truly appreciate your input about the lower success rate of the newer model. Your feedback is important to us, and we will certainly look into it to see if improvements can be made.
Answer by: Kimberly Cordon (Admin) on Dec 12, 2024, 4:19 PM
Your rat traps with the yellow bait holder suck. Half the time I set it, it goes off before I can set it down. Do you ever actually test a design before it goes out? The old copper model worked flawlessly for generations.
Question by: Todd Cage on Jul 11, 2025, 8:12 PM
Thank you very much for contacting us.

We’re sorry to hear about the trouble you’ve had with the trap. Please note that the trap includes Firm and Sensitive settings:

Use the Firm setting if you're having trouble setting it—this makes it easier to handle without premature triggering.

The Sensitive setting is designed to trip more easily but can be harder to set.

We truly appreciate your feedback and will be happy to assist you further.
Answer by: Karla (Admin) on Jul 15, 2025, 12:28 PM
You had a good thing going. You were the best of the best. The old traps with the smaller copper bait pedal/paddle had close to 100% success rate (for me). Then you decided to go cheap and/or change your design to the large yellow plastic paddle. WTF. The new design sucks....really bad. Under 25% success rate. It triggered, but no rat or the rat got away. Yellow plastic pedal is too damn big and the rat just doesn't get far enough onto the platform. Please, please, please, change your design back to the smaller metal/copper bait trigger pedal. It was what made your company great. Why fix/redesign something that wasn't broken in the first place. You made your product WORST and are forcing your loyal customers to look at other brands of rat/mouse traps.
Question by: James Folgeri on Jul 27, 2025, 3:38 PM
Thank you for sharing your feedback.

We recommend using a pea-sized amount of bait for best performance. Additionally, please take note of the Firm and Sensitive setting on the traps. Setting the trap to "Firm" will make it easier to set, but it won't trip as easily. Conversely, setting it to "Sensitive" will make it more difficult to set but more likely to trigger.
Answer by: Karla Chavez (Admin) on Jul 28, 2025, 5:29 PM
Does Victor make rat traps with the metal bait pedal anymore? I have found that the rat traps with the large yellow pedal are too sensitive and continually snap before I can even set them in place. I have tried to use both the sensitive and not sensitive settings based on which side of the pedal you put the trigger on. The pedal will still drop down as the trap is being set flat and snap. I thought the metal pedal version worked much better, didn't have issues with it snapping shut when setting down. Thanks, Zak
Question by: Zak on May 5, 2025, 12:32 PM
Thank you for reaching out! The Victor® Metal Pedal Rat Trap (M201) has been officially discontinued and is now obsolete. As a result, this product is no longer available for order or replenishment.
Answer by: Kimberly (Admin) on May 6, 2025, 8:37 AM
They say you can’t build a better mouse trap. Well Victor has actually made a worse trap. The F& S settings are silly. The copper setting allowed you to raise the point to put a larger piece of bait. These break and then you have to toss them away. A waste of money.
Question by: Michael Hill on Oct 14, 2025, 5:01 PM
We’re sorry to hear about your experience with the trap. The F (Firm) and S (Sensitive) settings are designed to give users flexibility depending on the environment and type of bait used. However, we understand that this may not meet everyone’s expectations.
We appreciate your feedback and will be sure to pass it along to our product team.
