Victor® Easy Set® Rat Trap - A New Twist on a Classic Design

Simplify rodent control with the Victor® Easy Set® Rat Trap. Using the original wooden snap trap design with an improved larger trip pedal to ensure higher catch rates, this trap will help you to effectively eliminate rodents around your household or business. Two settings, Firm and Sensitive, allow you to control the sensitivity of the trap. In addition, these traps require no chemicals or poisons. For best results, rat traps should be placed where rodents travel, such as along walls at 2-3 ft intervals.

Expanded Trigger Rod

Expanded Trigger Plate

The Easy Set® Rat Trap enhances the classic snap trap design by adding a large plastic trigger plate to ensure higher catch rates. The expanded size means it can be easily activated both by rodent interest in food and through accidental contact as rats scamper across the floor.

Quick & Effective

Once a rodent triggers the pedal, the Easy Set® Rat Trap immediately springs closed to eliminate the pest on contact. After a catch, simply throw away the entire trap for quick and clean removal or dispose of the rat and reuse the trap.

Easy 4 step setup

Easy 4-Step Setup

For your convenience, the Victor® Easy Set® Rat Trap is very easy to use. Get your trap set up by following these four simple steps:

  1. Release the Arm Bar - Remove the staple and hang the arm over the back of the trap.
  2. Bait the Trap - While the trap is pre-baited with a scent, apply bait on the plastic pedal for best results. Use a high-protein bait such as peanut butter or hazelnut spread.
  3. Set the Trap - Pull back the kill bar and hold it securely with your thumb. Place the arm bar over the kill bar and secure it under the plastic pedal. Take note of the Firm and Sensitive setting. The trap will be easier to set on the firm side, but not trip as easy. The trap will be more difficult to set on the sensitive side, but trip very easily.
  4. Place the Trap - Locate an area with high rodent activity or place the trap along the wall. The trap should be perpendicular to the wall with the yellow trigger plate flush against the baseboard.

Environmentally Responsible Materials

Not only will the Victor® Easy Set® Rat Trap help you eliminate your rodent problem, you can feel satisfied in knowing that it is sourced from environmentally responsible materials. It is constructed of Forest Stewardship Council® certified wood.

Thank you for your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that this trap didn’t meet your expectations. We understand your frustration, especially if you’ve had better success with traditional metal traps in the past. Different environments and rodent behavior can impact performance, and we know how important it is to have a solution you can rely on. Your comments are valuable, and we’ll be sure to share them with our product team as we continue to evaluate and improve our designs.

After purchasing the item I had then noticed endless customers Complained that the bar is too short. Sure enough the bar is too short and my fingers almost got trapped. I am writing a Google review for the principal. I believe it is wrong to knowingly sell faulty measured products. It is illegal. but who is going to return a $6 dollar product That has peanut butter smeared on it? Again this review is simply for the principal.

Thanks for your feedback. We understand your concerns and appreciate you taking the time to share them. The bar length and trigger mechanism are designed to meet specific performance and safety standards, so it’s concerning to hear that it felt too short and difficult to handle during setup. It should allow you to set the trap without putting your fingers at risk, and your experience is not what we intend. We also take product quality and customer trust seriously, and your comments about consistency and design will be shared with our team for review.

The switch to the "wide pedal" was a huge mistake - perhap a cost-cutting measure? I've used Victor traps successfully for years with the original design. It is extremely difficult to set the wide pedal trap - The bar just slips out of the pedal, whether I place it on the "F" side or the "S" side.

Thank you for sharing your experience. We really appreciate your long history of using our traps and understand how frustrating this must feel. The wide pedal design wasn’t intended as a cost-cutting change, but rather to make the trap more sensitive and easier to trigger with lighter contact. That said, we recognize that it can feel different to set compared to the original design, especially if you’ve been using the classic version for years. If the bar is slipping out during setup, a couple of things may help: Make sure the pedal is held firmly in place while positioning the bar. Small shifts can cause it to release early. Try setting it on a flat, stable surface with steady pressure to keep everything aligned. Some users find the “S” (sensitive) side more responsive, but it can also be trickier to set. Using the “F” side may offer a bit more stability. We understand that changes to a familiar product can be frustrating, and your feedback is genuinely valuable as we continue to improve the design.

Same, can't set as designed, horrible, I almost took my thumb off. Even worse, when the end of the bar is sheared off at the factory, it goes in such a direction that rounds off the bar in the wrong direction, making it nearly impossible to set. I used Vise-Grips to turn "up" the end of the bar so at least it would set and hold. Taking the other one back. And Victor's canned response about "this behavior isn't expected" is sad. This behavior is COMPLETELY expected. Bring back the copper trigger.

Thank you for sharing your experience with the Victor® Wide Pedal Rat Trap. We’re sorry to hear about the difficulty setting the trap and the concern with the trigger bar. This trap is designed to set smoothly and securely, so the issue you described isn’t expected. For best results, make sure the bar is aligned properly in the pedal slot and apply steady pressure when setting to keep your hands clear of the strike area. If the bar appears misshaped or not holding as intended, the trap may not be functioning correctly. Please contact us and we’ll be glad to assist further.

Thank you for sharing your experience with the Victor® Wide Pedal Mouse Trap. We’re sorry to hear it didn’t perform as expected. For best results, place traps along walls where rodents travel, position the trigger end against the wall, and use a small amount of bait like peanut butter. Setting multiple traps close together can also improve catch rates.

Plastic pads make these traps absolutely useless. They are not capable of being set. VIictor will go out of business if they do not bring the old version that actually works back. I resent them for wasting my time and money.

Thank you for sharing your feedback on the Victor® Wide Pedal Rat Trap. We’re sorry to hear about your experience. This trap is designed to set easily with a large pedal for improved activation, so the issue described isn’t expected. For best results, apply a small amount of bait (pea-sized) directly to the bait cup and pull the kill bar back firmly until it locks into place. Placing the trap along walls where rodent activity is seen can also help improve performance.
Plastic wide pedal is dangerous and stupid
1
Mar 9, 2026
As others have said, the change to the plastic "wide pedal" trap, from the classic metal pedal, is a disaster. It's very hard to set. The metal bar slips half the time on the plastic. Then once you get it set, it will still slip while you are attempting to place the trap where you want it. Of course, you should always hold the trap so that if it does snap, it won't snap on your fingers. But still, when it snaps in your hand it is a violent and terrifying thing. This is super dangerous. i predict class action lawsuits against Victor for all the injured and severed fingers that are going to happen. It is also so stupid that the company that invented the classic mouse trap has violated the classic saying that you can't invent a better mouse trap (in this case rat trap). Trying to invent a better mouse/rat trap is literally a metaphor for a fools errand. I just hope someone else makes a version of the classic trap. I will not use this one anymore.

Thank you for sharing your feedback on the Victor® Wide Pedal Rat Trap. We’re sorry to hear about the difficulty you experienced setting the trap. This design is intended to provide a larger trigger area and secure placement, so the behavior you described isn’t expected. For best results, apply steady pressure when setting the metal bar onto the pedal and ensure it is securely positioned before moving the trap. Keeping fingers clear of the strike area during setup and placement can also help prevent accidental triggering.

I've used the older style with copper bait holder and had been able to set and trap succussfully. Setting this one is hit or miss. I watched the video for an explanation of the F/S positions. Here's an idea: enclose/attach that description with the the trap/packaging.

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We’re glad to hear the older style trap with the copper bait holder worked well for you, and we’re sorry to hear that setting this newer version has been a hit-or-miss experience. We appreciate your suggestion about including clearer instructions explaining the F/S positions directly on the packaging or with the trap. That’s a helpful idea, and we’ll be sure to pass your feedback along to our product and packaging teams for consideration. Our goal is to make the traps as easy and reliable to use as possible, and input like yours helps us identify where we can improve. Thank you again for taking the time to share your experience and suggestion.
Hi - I've been using ...

Hi - I've been using Victor Rat Traps all my life. I'm 69. I had 2 in my garden to catch rats and something hauled off one of them, so I decided to buy replacements. I saw these wide pedal traps but since the original copper pedal traps worked fine, I kept searching. Couldn't find any. So I finally bought 4 of these new traps. Note - I had strong reservations about buying these. I didn't want them. I wanted the established product that I knew worked, but had no choice. I decided to give them several months trial before writing my review. Here it is. Conclusion - These traps are no good. Do not buy them. I think a competitor is building something with the same original trigger on it. Reasons behind the conclusion - The place where the bait goes doesn't hold it firmly. There's not enough room under it to edge the bait in well. I'm thinking about putting a heat gun to it and prying it up a little. These traps sit out in the sun all day every day. The UV rays will degrade the plastic over time so they won't last. Whoever wrote your marketing hype about throwing out the traps after one use should be fired. I read reviews saying the traps were difficult to set. I didn't have that issue. It did take a learning curve on how to engage the trigger and lower it until the arm was about to spring it. Whoever wrote that the trap trigger is more sensitive to the side should be fired. Despite making the trap more sensitive this way, I still had bait stolen without setting it off. The one remaining old style trap I have catches more rats than all 4 of the others. Oh, and whoever wrote the hype about the traps being pre-baited should also be fired. You must bait these traps. Whatever has been taking my traps took one of the new ones and it made me happy. I want the coyote or raccoon to take them all so I'll have an excuse to buy better traps. If I see Victor has resumed production of their good traps, I'll buy them. Until then, no more. Bib

Q&A

Can you still get the traps with the copper triggers? I have tried the new and there has been a very low success rate for the new pedal trigger. Please go back to the older type, even if it cost more the success rate will make up for it. Maybe give the customer a choice.
Question by: Earl Trail on Dec 7, 2024, 5:57 PM
Thank you for sharing your feedback regarding the rat traps with the new pedal trigger.

Unfortunately, the rat traps with the copper pedal trigger have been discontinued and are no longer available. We understand your concerns, and we truly appreciate your input about the lower success rate of the newer model. Your feedback is important to us, and we will certainly look into it to see if improvements can be made.
Answer by: Kimberly Cordon (Admin) on Dec 12, 2024, 4:19 PM
Your rat traps with the yellow bait holder suck. Half the time I set it, it goes off before I can set it down. Do you ever actually test a design before it goes out? The old copper model worked flawlessly for generations.
Question by: Todd Cage on Jul 11, 2025, 8:12 PM
Thank you very much for contacting us.

We’re sorry to hear about the trouble you’ve had with the trap. Please note that the trap includes Firm and Sensitive settings:

Use the Firm setting if you're having trouble setting it—this makes it easier to handle without premature triggering.

The Sensitive setting is designed to trip more easily but can be harder to set.

We truly appreciate your feedback and will be happy to assist you further.
Answer by: Karla (Admin) on Jul 15, 2025, 12:28 PM
You had a good thing going. You were the best of the best. The old traps with the smaller copper bait pedal/paddle had close to 100% success rate (for me). Then you decided to go cheap and/or change your design to the large yellow plastic paddle. WTF. The new design sucks....really bad. Under 25% success rate. It triggered, but no rat or the rat got away. Yellow plastic pedal is too damn big and the rat just doesn't get far enough onto the platform. Please, please, please, change your design back to the smaller metal/copper bait trigger pedal. It was what made your company great. Why fix/redesign something that wasn't broken in the first place. You made your product WORST and are forcing your loyal customers to look at other brands of rat/mouse traps.
Question by: James Folgeri on Jul 27, 2025, 3:38 PM
Thank you for sharing your feedback.

We recommend using a pea-sized amount of bait for best performance. Additionally, please take note of the Firm and Sensitive setting on the traps. Setting the trap to "Firm" will make it easier to set, but it won't trip as easily. Conversely, setting it to "Sensitive" will make it more difficult to set but more likely to trigger.
Answer by: Karla Chavez (Admin) on Jul 28, 2025, 5:29 PM
Does Victor make rat traps with the metal bait pedal anymore? I have found that the rat traps with the large yellow pedal are too sensitive and continually snap before I can even set them in place. I have tried to use both the sensitive and not sensitive settings based on which side of the pedal you put the trigger on. The pedal will still drop down as the trap is being set flat and snap. I thought the metal pedal version worked much better, didn't have issues with it snapping shut when setting down. Thanks, Zak
Question by: Zak on May 5, 2025, 12:32 PM
Thank you for reaching out! The Victor® Metal Pedal Rat Trap (M201) has been officially discontinued and is now obsolete. As a result, this product is no longer available for order or replenishment.
Answer by: Kimberly (Admin) on May 6, 2025, 8:37 AM
They say you can’t build a better mouse trap. Well Victor has actually made a worse trap. The F& S settings are silly. The copper setting allowed you to raise the point to put a larger piece of bait. These break and then you have to toss them away. A waste of money.
Question by: Michael Hill on Oct 14, 2025, 5:01 PM
We’re sorry to hear about your experience with the trap. The F (Firm) and S (Sensitive) settings are designed to give users flexibility depending on the environment and type of bait used. However, we understand that this may not meet everyone’s expectations.
We appreciate your feedback and will be sure to pass it along to our product team.
