Victor® Easy Set® Rat Trap - A New Twist on a Classic Design

Simplify rodent control with the Victor® Easy Set® Rat Trap. Using the original wooden snap trap design with an improved larger trip pedal to ensure higher catch rates, this trap will help you to effectively eliminate rodents around your household or business. Two settings, Firm and Sensitive, allow you to control the sensitivity of the trap. In addition, these traps require no chemicals or poisons. For best results, rat traps should be placed where rodents travel, such as along walls at 2-3 ft intervals.

Expanded Trigger Rod

Expanded Trigger Plate

The Easy Set® Rat Trap enhances the classic snap trap design by adding a large plastic trigger plate to ensure higher catch rates. The expanded size means it can be easily activated both by rodent interest in food and through accidental contact as rats scamper across the floor.

Quick & Effective

Once a rodent triggers the pedal, the Easy Set® Rat Trap immediately springs closed to eliminate the pest on contact. After a catch, simply throw away the entire trap for quick and clean removal or dispose of the rat and reuse the trap.

Easy 4 step setup

Easy 4-Step Setup

For your convenience, the Victor® Easy Set® Rat Trap is very easy to use. Get your trap set up by following these four simple steps:

  1. Release the Arm Bar - Remove the staple and hang the arm over the back of the trap.
  2. Bait the Trap - While the trap is pre-baited with a scent, apply bait on the plastic pedal for best results. Use a high-protein bait such as peanut butter or hazelnut spread.
  3. Set the Trap - Pull back the kill bar and hold it securely with your thumb. Place the arm bar over the kill bar and secure it under the plastic pedal. Take note of the Firm and Sensitive setting. The trap will be easier to set on the firm side, but not trip as easy. The trap will be more difficult to set on the sensitive side, but trip very easily.
  4. Place the Trap - Locate an area with high rodent activity or place the trap along the wall. The trap should be perpendicular to the wall with the yellow trigger plate flush against the baseboard.

Environmentally Responsible Materials

Not only will the Victor® Easy Set® Rat Trap help you eliminate your rodent problem, you can feel satisfied in knowing that it is sourced from environmentally responsible materials. It is constructed of Forest Stewardship Council® certified wood.

Come on Cracker Barrel, admit your mistake...

Bought 4 of these at W*M. Only one would set. After many tries and a smashed finger I gave up on the other three. A note to your Marketing Dept: This retired analyst would like to point out the number of one star reviews all concerning the plastic padels. For every one person taking the time to review your product, there are a hundred more with the same issue that didn't. What does it matter if you save 2 cents using the plastic if you kill your repeat sales? Come on Cracker Barrel, admit your mistake and bring back the old style trap.

We’re sorry to hear about your experience with the Victor® Wide Pedal Rat Trap. The trap should set securely without slipping, so difficulty latching the bar or repeated misfires can indicate a misaligned or defective unit. We appreciate your detailed feedback regarding the plastic pedal design, and we’ll be sure to share your comments with our product team as we continue evaluating improvements for future versions.
These are the worst.

These are the worst. It is nearly impossible to engage the trap without snapping a finger. Please bring back the original metal platform. It was safer and easier to engage.

We’re sorry to hear about your experience with the Victor® Wide Pedal Rat Trap. The metal bar should latch securely onto the pedal when the trap is aligned correctly, but difficulty setting it may indicate the trigger mechanism isn’t engaging as it should. Using a very small amount of bait and keeping the trap on a flat, stable surface can help with setting. We appreciate your feedback regarding the previous metal platform design and will share it with our product team as we continue improving our traps.

Replaced 4 of my 5+ yr old traps today with the new yellow trigger rat traps. I have used the old yellow trigger models ( sold as pre baited at the time) They have and still work great. These new ones are PURE GARBAGE.. 3 of them were never able to be set , no matter how i tried.

We’re sorry to hear about your experience with the updated Victor® Wide Pedal Rat Traps. The metal bar should latch securely onto the pedal when the trap is properly aligned, so traps that can’t be set at all may indicate a defective batch. Using a small amount of bait and setting the trap on a flat, stable surface can also help, but if the traps still won’t hold, please contact our Consumer Care Team at 1-855-584-2867 so we can assist further under our product guarantee. We’re available Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM – 7 PM EST.

I absolutely hate giving poor reviews - I think this is like my 2nd or 3rd ever since I started using the Internet in the 90's. I have to concur that these are horrible. The plastic pad is far too slippery to be able to set these traps without them going off in my hand. I cannot even get the trap to set at all on 3 out of the 4 of these I purchased The arm-bar is cut in such a manner that the tip, that should hold and "bite" into the plastic trigger, is rounded off, so slips immediately out of the trigger. The underside of the arm-bar still has a bur remaining from the machine cutting process that would provide a better "bite" into the plastic trigger pad. Either cut the arm-bar from the underside, or have the bars rotated in the cutting process prior to the bending/shaping so that this bur is facing upward and these just -might- function.

We’re sorry to hear about your experience with the Victor® Wide Pedal Rat Trap. The metal bar should securely latch onto the pedal when the trap is properly aligned, so difficulty getting it to hold or set may indicate a defective trigger or arm-bar finish. Using a very small amount of bait and keeping the trap on a flat, stable surface can sometimes help with setting, but the slipping you’ve described should not occur. Your detailed feedback is appreciated and will be shared with our product team as we continue improving the design.
Works fine for me.

I tried some other types of traps, but this one works the best. Easy to set, effective, and cheap. I have bought more than a dozen of these and experienced no defects. I honestly have no idea what other reviewers are doing wrong.

What a piece of garbage ...

What a piece of garbage this yellow plastic bait holder is. Whoever designed it should be FIRED! Saving a few pennies on metal tabs but loosing dollars on trap sales, lol, good job! I for one would pay more $$ for the metal bait tab. No one will waste 30 minutes trying to set a trap only to have the rod slip out and possibly smash their fingers. Yes. I tried your canned responses on how to "correctly" set the stupid plastic tab. Keeps slipping off regardless, wadda joke! Keep a close eye on your trap sales. They will be plummeting. ZERO STARS is still too many.

We’re sorry to hear about your experience with the Victor® Wide Pedal Rat Trap and how difficult it has been to set. The metal bar should stay securely latched when the pedal and trigger are properly aligned, but if it continues to slip off even after following the setup steps, the trap may be misaligned or defective. Please contact our Consumer Care Team at 1-855-584-2867 for assistance. We’re available Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM – 7 PM EST.

Doesn’t work anymore now that they added plastic. I bought these for the past 15 years when they were just wood and metal. Old fashioned and worked like a charm didn’t need improving. Now maybe for cost savings who knows? They replaced a piece with plastic and the rats enjoy snacking while it doesn’t deploy at all. Why would you mess with a perfect thing? Never buying again

these traps just don't work...the plastic bait platform/trigger hook is slick plastic so the retaining bar that holds back the trap wire won't catch on the plastic.....totally useless

I bought 2 expanded pedal ...

I bought 2 expanded pedal rat traps. I could not set them. The trigger would not hold to the plastic square bait pedal allowing the trap to be set. It appears that the plastic is too slick and the metal rod slips out of the plastic bait pedal. I got frustrated and through both traps in the trash. Will not buy again. Very poor design in my honest opinion. Victor should remove all of these traps from the store shelves.

These traps don’t work.

Oct 25, 2025
These traps don’t work. The plastic paddle will not stay engaged on the catch unless I bend the anchor on the catch bar at which point it will set but won’t trigger. This has been the case with the majority of the traps I have purchased - maybe one out of five actually works. In the past with the copper paddle this was never an issue and they used to work reliably.

Q&A

Can you still get the traps with the copper triggers? I have tried the new and there has been a very low success rate for the new pedal trigger. Please go back to the older type, even if it cost more the success rate will make up for it. Maybe give the customer a choice.
Question by: Earl Trail on Dec 7, 2024, 5:57 PM
Thank you for sharing your feedback regarding the rat traps with the new pedal trigger.

Unfortunately, the rat traps with the copper pedal trigger have been discontinued and are no longer available. We understand your concerns, and we truly appreciate your input about the lower success rate of the newer model. Your feedback is important to us, and we will certainly look into it to see if improvements can be made.
Answer by: Kimberly Cordon (Admin) on Dec 12, 2024, 4:19 PM
Your rat traps with the yellow bait holder suck. Half the time I set it, it goes off before I can set it down. Do you ever actually test a design before it goes out? The old copper model worked flawlessly for generations.
Question by: Todd Cage on Jul 11, 2025, 8:12 PM
Thank you very much for contacting us.

We’re sorry to hear about the trouble you’ve had with the trap. Please note that the trap includes Firm and Sensitive settings:

Use the Firm setting if you're having trouble setting it—this makes it easier to handle without premature triggering.

The Sensitive setting is designed to trip more easily but can be harder to set.

We truly appreciate your feedback and will be happy to assist you further.
Answer by: Karla (Admin) on Jul 15, 2025, 12:28 PM
Does Victor make rat traps with the metal bait pedal anymore? I have found that the rat traps with the large yellow pedal are too sensitive and continually snap before I can even set them in place. I have tried to use both the sensitive and not sensitive settings based on which side of the pedal you put the trigger on. The pedal will still drop down as the trap is being set flat and snap. I thought the metal pedal version worked much better, didn't have issues with it snapping shut when setting down. Thanks, Zak
Question by: Zak on May 5, 2025, 12:32 PM
Thank you for reaching out! The Victor® Metal Pedal Rat Trap (M201) has been officially discontinued and is now obsolete. As a result, this product is no longer available for order or replenishment.
Answer by: Kimberly (Admin) on May 6, 2025, 8:37 AM
I have one of these and the trigger mechanism no longer gets released even though the pedal is completely depressed by a rat. I've tried setting it on both firm and sensitive with same result.
Question by: Clayton Zinnecker on Dec 7, 2024, 8:12 PM
Thank you for reaching out to us regarding your Victor® Wide Pedal Rat Trap.

I’m sorry to hear that the trigger mechanism is not releasing, even when the pedal is fully depressed. Since you've already tried adjusting the sensitivity settings without success, this could indicate a mechanical issue.

We recommend checking a few things:

Since the trap may still be under warranty, we encourage you to give us a call to verify if you qualify for a replacement. We offer a 1-year warranty from the date of purchase.
