What kind of bait do I use?
Question by: Kathryn Tator on Oct 22, 2020, 12:41 PM
Individuals in a rodent population search for different types of food. For mice, anything high in protein like peanut butter, chocolate or hazelnut spread is a great option. Also, nesting materials like dental floss, cotton or string are also great options. Try to use whatever bait or nesting material the rodents are currently feeding on or using to build nests.

Can the trap be reused?
Question by: Kathryn Tator on Oct 24, 2020, 10:25 AM
This trap can be reused or disposed of. It is personal preference. Check the traps frequently to ensure the trap is emptied as soon as a mouse is captured and the traps will last longer. Please note that for personal hygiene and bio-hazard awareness, disposable gloves should always be worn when installing or recovering any traps.

What is the best bait to use?
Question by: Kathryn Tator on Oct 24, 2020, 10:34 AM
Individuals in a rodent population search for different types of food. Anything like peanut butter, dry dog food, nuts, fruit or bacon is a great option. Try to use whatever bait the rodents are currently feeding on, but feel free to provide alternative choices as well. Remember, only a small amount of bait is needed!

1. Release the arm bar from the staple.
2. Move the arm bar to the back of the trap so it
hangs over the back of the trap.
3. Apply a small amount of peanut butter or
anything high in protein like chocolate or
hazelnut spread to the yellow pedal on the trap
as shown. Be sure to use a Q-tip, toothpick
or another tool to bait so your scent is not
transferred onto the trap. Please note that this
trap is pre-baited with the scented, cheese
pedal, but adding additional bait will increase
your chances of a catch.
4. Pull the kill bar back and hold in place with
your thumb.
5. Take the arm bar over the kill bar and latch the
end of the arm bar under the elevated yellow
pedal. (Be sure to lift the yellow pedal slightly
when setting.) Please take note to the Firm
and Sensitive setting. The trap will be easier to
set on the firm side, but not trip as easily. The
trap will be more difficult to set on the
sensitive side and trip very easily.
6. Place the trap where you have seen signs of
rodent activity or along the wall where rodents
primarily travel. The end of the trap where the
yellow pedal is baited should be placed flush
against the wall.
7. After the rat is caught, properly dispose of
the dead rodent. The trap can either be
discarded or reused.

Can you still get the traps with the copper triggers? I have tried the new and there has been a very low success rate for the new pedal trigger. Please go back to the older type, even if it cost more the success rate will make up for it. Maybe give the customer a choice.
Question by: Earl Trail on Dec 7, 2024, 5:57 PM
Thank you for sharing your feedback regarding the rat traps with the new pedal trigger.

Unfortunately, the rat traps with the copper pedal trigger have been discontinued and are no longer available. We understand your concerns, and we truly appreciate your input about the lower success rate of the newer model. Your feedback is important to us, and we will certainly look into it to see if improvements can be made.

I have one of these and the trigger mechanism no longer gets released even though the pedal is completely depressed by a rat. I've tried setting it on both firm and sensitive with same result.
Question by: Clayton Zinnecker on Dec 7, 2024, 8:12 PM
Thank you for reaching out to us regarding your Victor® Wide Pedal Rat Trap.

I’m sorry to hear that the trigger mechanism is not releasing, even when the pedal is fully depressed. Since you've already tried adjusting the sensitivity settings without success, this could indicate a mechanical issue.

We recommend checking a few things:

Hi, We have several Victor rat traps( the large ones) that do not have the bait stage anymore. Do you sell them separately, either the yellow ones or the metal bait stage. Thanks.
Question by: Mariano Roy Duya on Feb 5, 2025, 3:22 AM
Thank you very much for contacting us. It would be our pleasure to assist you.

Unfortunately, we do not offer the bait stage as a separate item for purchase.

If you need further assistance, please feel free to reach out.

Does Victor make rat traps with the metal bait pedal anymore? I have found that the rat traps with the large yellow pedal are too sensitive and continually snap before I can even set them in place. I have tried to use both the sensitive and not sensitive settings based on which side of the pedal you put the trigger on. The pedal will still drop down as the trap is being set flat and snap. I thought the metal pedal version worked much better, didn't have issues with it snapping shut when setting down. Thanks, Zak
Question by: Zak on May 5, 2025, 12:32 PM
Thank you for reaching out! The Victor® Metal Pedal Rat Trap (M201) has been officially discontinued and is now obsolete. As a result, this product is no longer available for order or replenishment.
