Thank you for sharing your feedback with our team. We are sorry to hear about this experience! Please keep in mind that this trap is not recommended for outdoor use and it could cause false alerts and premature product failure if exposed to the elements. For best results, the trap should be kept inside. If rats are failing to go inside of the trap, you may want to use a different kind of bait such as a hazelnut spread.

I have tried many types of traps for rats with zero results. I bought this trap and thought I was in for more of the same..,. No results! Then, I made a little modification that made all the difference! The trap works great! I’ve caught 9 rats in two weeks.

OK--I was super skeptical that this would actually work, but this was the least disgusting method i came across. The high cost initially was a factor but when it came down to it I was willing to try it. It worked like a champ--took one night. Setting it up again for the next few nights just to ensure no mo' catches.

I bought four of these when we first encountered a rat problem that moved from our garage into our florida room. That was about 2 months ago and I've yet to catch one rat in these traps. I tried peanut butter, Reese's cups, cream cheese, colby cheese, cheddar cheese, bread, dog kibble (they had been creating stores of the kibble, so I know they like it/eat it) as bait and NADA. I used latex gloves to handle the traps and bait them, so I know human scent isn't an issue. Traps showed green light and buzz properly when I turned them on. Set them along high traffic areas as denoted by 'sign'. There is no indication the bait was ever touched, so they didn't enter the traps. I eventually did some YT research and came up with the baking soda mix-set platters of that out and they were in it. That worked on MOST of them, showed a reduction in traffic in the home and garage. But we have one hard case that is a real challenge-he won't fall for any of the traps-snap traps, tunnel traps, Electronic traps, glue strips, whatever. This rat is unbelievably cautious. I want to give your trap one more chance and I'll try a meat-based bait this time, maybe bacon or slim jim. I'll clean it up per your procedure, bait it and place it accordingly, but this far I'm pretty disappointed in the lack of success with these traps. I just retired from 45+ years as an electronic product R&D engineer so I have extensive experience with product testing and validation, I wonder how rigorous your technical people tested these traps before releasing them? My experience thus far has been pretty discouraging, not even a nibble. Would love to talk to someone at VICTOR and trade notes, see if I'm missing something. Thus far 'Willard' 1.000 VICTOR 0.000.

Thank you for sharing this feedback. We're sorry to hear that the desired results have not been seen with these traps. Rats can be very cautious towards new items in their environment. Having the trap in place with bait and not setting it will allow them to become accustomed to taking food from the station. Once they are used to the trap, you can then turn it on and have it ready for a kill. Please note that bait should only be placed on the back wall of the trap (peanut butter for example). No bait should be on the floor of the trap as this can interfere with the activation of the kill mechanism. Reach out to us directly with any questions.

Our kill numbers are 17 rats and 16 mice for 2022! Killings done humanly; no poisons used that would get into the food chain; the rodent did not suffer. The Victor Electronic Rat Trap is the best solution to control the rodent population. We live in a rural area in the Sonoran Desert. Though we love our desert animals, the pack rats and mice are destructive and carry disease. In previous years, In previous years, pack rats have caused thousands of dollars of damages by chewing wires in vehicles! Rodents potentially carry Hantavirus. This trap is easy to use; easy to clean. Victor traps are well-made and last a long time. Victor is the best and most effective manner of killing rodents!

Q&A

What is the best way to clean the trap?
Question by: Mike Yeoman on Oct 29, 2022, 8:16 PM
Cleaning instructions can be found here - https://www.victorpest.com/customer-support/m241/cleaning
Answer by: Rachel Williams (Admin) on Oct 31, 2022, 9:00 AM
When I turn on the trap the green light flashes but it doesn't buzz. I set the trap out and when I checked it two days later the bait was gone and mouse/rat hair was inside the trap but no animal. Does this mean the electronic shock isn't working? What do I do to fix this?
Question by: Kim Ruiz on Jan 4, 2022, 7:23 PM
If the trap is flashing green when turned on, the trap is armed and ready. While the trap will often buzz as well, the buzz is fairly quiet and may be hard to hear if there is any background noise. It is important when using this trap, to make sure that the plates inside the trap are clean and free of any leftover bait and debris, as this could cause a false trip to the system, allowing the rodent to escape without a catch! The trap is backed by a 30 day return policy and a 1 year replacement policy. Please give us a call at 855-584-2867 for assistance.
