Helpfulness
No where NEAR as good ...md
Jan 1, 2026
No where NEAR as good as the earlier model. Redesigning that into this was a colossal mistake..
1) much much harder to clean
2) much more difficult to bait without a bait door
3) using smaller batteries instead of the original c cells means it won’t run as long.
I’m now looking at other models (by companies that copied the earlier model which was way better) and I will never buy nor recommend a victor electronic trap again.

Thank you for sharing your detailed feedback on the Victor® Electronic Rat Trap. We’re sorry to hear this model didn’t meet your expectations, especially compared to the earlier version. This design was intended to offer reliable performance with updated components, but we understand that cleaning, baiting, and battery life are important factors in day-to-day use.
For best results, using a small amount of bait placed toward the back of the chamber and following the recommended cleaning steps in the instructions can help with usability and performance.

Thank you for sharing your feedback on the Victor® Electronic Rat Trap. We’re sorry to hear about your experience. This trap is designed to deliver a quick, effective result when set up as directed, so the outcome you described isn’t expected. Ensuring fresh batteries are installed, the trap is placed directly along rat travel paths, and the bait cup is properly filled can help improve performance.
100% waste of your money

The redesigned electronic trap is absolute garbage.
It’s as if the the so-called engineers at Victor didn’t even test the product or try to actually use it before they sent it off to production.
Why it is a useless waste of your money:
1) No bait door anymore - makes it much more difficult to load effective liquid baits, peanut butter or others compared to the superior older model.
2) Smaller battery capacity: AA’s are now required instead of larger C batteries (like the previous model) you’ll have to change batteries out more often
3) The worst: you can longer slide the top off for easy cleaning. Makes it much more difficult to clean effectively.
Clearly, this was a solution looking for a problem as the previous model was a far better design. Luckily, there are other manufacturers out there that make a similar design to the old Victor style (which I still have two of) and that’s what I will be buying after I throw the two newer victor traps in the trash.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback on the Victor® Electronic Rat Trap. We’re sorry to hear the redesigned model did not meet your expectations. We understand your concerns regarding bait loading, battery type, and cleaning, and we appreciate you outlining those points.
For baiting, placing a small amount directly in the bait cup is recommended to ensure proper activation. Using fresh batteries and checking that the trap is fully seated and clean between uses can also help performance. The design changes were made to support consistent triggering when used as directed, but the experience you described is not what we want customers to have.
If the trap is not working as intended, please give us a call at 1-855-584-2867 (Mon–Fri, 8:30 AM–7 PM EST) and our team will be happy to assist further.
Just works

Picked one of these up for an active infestation in my garage. Took a few days, as expected, for them to get comfortable around it, but each morning has been punctuated with the discovery of a fresh kill. The local ravens appear to be rather thankful for the free, undamaged meals in the morning, as disposal for me is simply asking nature to do its thing--and finding accord.
I didn't skimp on batteries or gamble with any laying around my home. I figure this thing uses some capacitors and circuits that need solid performance and strong voltage maintenance over time, so I went with the pricier electronics-oriented battery formulations.
How much longer the device may last could revise my sentiment, but not this review; it's proven capable and effective while making removal an effortless and clean process in short order; precisely when and where I needed it to.
Lousy Design

This design is not as nice as the previous design. Previously the top could come off for easy access to the inside (i.e. for cleaning). I can’t easily get my hand inside the front hole on this design and I hate it. And this design no longer has the bait door.

Thank you for sharing your experience with the Victor® Electronic Rat Trap. We’re sorry to hear this design didn’t meet your expectations. The current model has a fixed top and front access opening, so cleaning may require using a brush or cloth rather than reaching inside by hand. Bait is placed directly in the back of the trap, which replaces the previous bait door.
DO NOT BUY

I agree 100% with another review. The redesigned model is total crap compared to the older model. All the videos say to remove the top to clean, but you can't remove the top because of the redesign. The videos say open the bait door, but there is no bait door because of the redesign. The peanut butter doesn't stay stuck to the hexagonal fitting. The redesigned ruined a great product and Victor can't even change the directions. I tried to remove the bottom to try to clean the tray and broke it. Just another example of a corporation trying to make more profit by reducing the quality of the product. Hope your owners are happy.

We’re sorry to hear about your experience with the redesigned Victor® Electronic Rat Trap. The updates you mentioned — including the fixed top, removed bait door, and changes to the bait area — clearly caused frustration, and we appreciate you sharing this feedback. The trap should still allow for easy baiting and cleaning, so breaking the unit while trying to access the tray isn’t expected.

After reading your reviews, it seems your products either work or they don’t. My rat trap has never worked. Most likely because the switch doesn’t.
I am a manufacturing engineer and I believe, like another reviewer, that it was cheaply designed for production, not for dependable operation or to be maintained easily.
I’m sorry Victor, but you didn’t build a better mouse trap this time…

We’re sorry to hear about your experience with the Victor® Electronic Rat Trap. The switch should operate reliably, and the trap should activate as soon as a rat enters fully, so a unit that never powers or triggers as intended may indicate a defective component. We appreciate your detailed feedback on the design, as it helps our team work toward improving long-term performance and ease of use.
Absolutely a 5 star product ...

Absolutely a 5 star product … period
I spend $100’s if not $1000’s from trap, baits to pest control… nothing!!! Then I bought this $48 gem and BOOM! Problem addressed in an extremely efficient and humane way.

You want something that works? THIS IS IT! After construction and demo of a nearby structure by our home, and our neighborhood being overrun with rats, sticky traps were not doing the job. So I got this. I put this out and by the morning it has done its job. Check out the pictures of the latest...this thing will take out 2 rats at the same time!
Go out and get this! It's worth every penny!

We’re sorry to hear about your experience with the Victor® Electronic Rat Trap. The latest model features a fixed top design and a bait cup inside the trap for easy placement through the entrance rather than a separate door. Applying a small amount of sticky bait, such as peanut butter mixed with oats, helps it stay in place. Wipe the metal plates with a damp cloth after each use to maintain proper contact. Your feedback on the redesign is appreciated and will be shared with our product team for review.
