When a larger amount of bait is placed on the trigger, a mouse can sometimes eat the bait from the edges without needing to apply enough pressure to the trigger plate to activate the trap. This can allow them to return multiple times and feed without setting it off. For best results, we recommend using only a very small amount of bait (about the size of a pea) and pressing it firmly into the bait cup or trigger area. This encourages the mouse to push or tug directly on the trigger in order to access the bait, which helps ensure the trap activates properly. Regarding the trap activation you observed, snap traps are designed to trigger quickly when the mouse interacts with the trigger.
