Designed with a safety feature that prevents accidental triggering, the Victor® Safe-Set™ Mouse Trap is a safe choice for homes with kids and pets when used as directed. To set, simply squeeze the trap until it clicks into place and place in an area with noticeable rodent activity. Mice will be able to enter the hole to grab the bait and trigger the kill bar, however, curious children and pets will not be able to set off the trap because of the Safe-Set™ feature.
Designed for Easy Baiting
Proper placement of bait is essential for a quick, clean kill. The Safe-Set™ Mouse Trap takes the hassle out of eliminating mice. To bait the trap, open the hatch on the bottom of the trap and apply a high protein bait, such as peanut butter, in the bait cup and click the hatch closed. Plus, the bait hood prevents bait theft by ensuring that rodents trigger the trap when trying to access the bait.
Quick and Effective Rodent Control
Once a mouse triggers the trap, the Safe-Set™ Mouse Trap immediately springs closed to eliminate the pest on contact. All that’s left to do is dispose of the rodent and clean the trap so it’s ready to use again and again. For the best results, place the trap near signs of rodent activity. Mice typically travel along walls, so placement in this location usually leads to a higher catch rate.

This trap is inhumane!.

This trap is inhumane!. I caught the mouse with the trap but the poor thing didn't die until after I released it! Do you understand how extremely scarring that is to a person when I purchased your traps thinking it would be quick and they wouldn't see it coming. No now my son and I are traumatized from seeing this poor thing squirm and flopping around it's head squished fighting for life only to open the trap and then it die. Very hard to see and I can't imagine the pain the mouse felt.

Caught mouse but didn't kill. Inhumane.

I bought this product thinking it was a great idea. However, it is a terrible product. I set them on Monday and finaly caught the mouse on early Thursday morning. I woke up at 2:30am to a crashing commotion in my kitchen. I couldn't find a direct cause so I looked through the house. I then waited where I heard the noise the first time. When I heard it again I was able to find that the trap had caught a mouse. The mouse was still alive and thrashing around under my stove. I had placed the trap 3 feet away around a corner. The mouse was able to drag it under the stove. I waited a bit to see if it would die. After 5 minutes of me waiting, around 15 minutes after the first noise, I decided to move the stove and get it out. I took it to the end of my property, swung the trap, opening as I did so. The mouse landed a ways away. It picked itself up and ran away.

I bought a two pack ...

I bought a two pack and set one up months ago and didn’t ever catch anything, though it had been triggered. I finally found their hole so I set the other up outside of it and within an hour I caught one. It cried and struggled for about 2 minutes. I think I’ll stick with a regular snap trap next time but it did kill the mouse.
Inhumane and cruel trap

Very quickly caught a mouse...partially. The poor thing was struggling to free itself. Exactly what I didn't want. These traps are inhumane. Just awful.

I placed two of these traps in my attic where I have documented mouse activity thanks to a camera I put up there. I was sorely disappointed to wake up this morning to discover a mouse eating the peanut butter bait without activating the trigger. The mouse returned all night long, countless times, eating the bait without consequence. FINALLY, and unfortunately for me- the trigger snapped as I watched on the camera live at about 5:30 am. It was NOT an instant kill, and the little guy thrashed in the trap for a full 30 seconds before going still. This is NOT a sensitive trap considering the mouse ate the bait repeatedly before finally being killed and NOT humanely.

Based on what you described, it sounds like the trap may have been baited with too much peanut butter. When a larger amount of bait is placed on the trigger, a mouse can sometimes eat the bait from the edges without needing to apply enough pressure to the trigger plate to activate the trap. This can allow them to return multiple times and feed without setting it off.
For best results, we recommend using only a very small amount of bait (about the size of a pea) and pressing it firmly into the bait cup or trigger area. This encourages the mouse to push or tug directly on the trigger in order to access the bait, which helps ensure the trap activates properly.
Regarding the trap activation you observed, snap traps are designed to trigger quickly when the mouse interacts with the trigger. Using a smaller, well-secured amount of bait typically helps ensure the trap fires sooner and more consistently.

To disarm the Victor® Safe-Set™ Mouse Trap, press down on the top of the trap (the same area used to set it) until you hear a click, then slowly release the pressure to return it to the open position. Keep your fingers clear of the opening while doing this for safety.

It sounds like you've got a smart mouse on your hands! For the Safe-Set Mouse Trap, we recommend using a pea-sized amount of peanut butter in the bait cup.
It's also a good idea to wear gloves when handling the trap and bait. This helps prevent transferring your human scent to the trap, which can deter cautious mice.

Hi, we really appreciate your question. You should apply a pea-sized amount of peanut butter the purpose is for the rodent to touch the pedal and get caught.

Yes, peanut butter can be used in the bait cup of the Victor® Safe Set Mouse Trap. Apply only a small amount, about the size of a pea, to encourage the mouse to interact with the trap.
