Helpfulness
A Better Mouse Trap

I think these bad reviews are either for some other product or user error. We had a wild field mouse get in and this thing worked great! Easy to use - the door is not hard to move but there are two ends, one the mouse walks in (door snaps shut behind) and the one you open to release. Be sure to put the bait all the way at the end in the part labeled "Bait" - missed that with my old eyes the first time. Caught it immediately after I figured out the bait part using peanut butter. Note that this is for small rodents NOT rats. If you see evidence of or hear rats you need to call a professional.

i'm giving it 2 stars because of how quickly it worked, but this product has many flaws. the first thing i noticed when i took it out of the box, the part you're supposed to lift to release the mouse is very hard to move, you basically have to rip it out of its place and i was afraid to break the trap... i set the trap last night and i caught a mouse, the mechanism inside seemed to work well as the mouse tried to get out. so it does keep them inside as intended but it's REALLY hard to get them out and i don't think most people want to get so close to a mouse. i had to get one of my bigger live mouse traps from a different brand and set it up right next to this trap to transfer it into the other one, just so the actual release is easier bc i don't want to be TIGHTLY GRIPPING a mouse trap with a mouse inside of it AS IM LETTING IT OUT lol!! then i took the Victor trap to clean it, hit it lightly against the ground a few times because there was mouse poop inside, and the spring controlling the ENTIRE trap mechanism popped out of it. i don't know how i'm supposed to fix this and i regret spending my money on this. I really wish there were like any decent humane traps because most people would give up and use a kill trap at this point

We’re sorry to hear about your experience, as this is not what we expect from the Victor® Live Catch Mouse Trap. While we’re glad to hear it successfully captured the mouse, the release door should open with steady pressure and allow for a safe and controlled release without requiring excessive force. For best results, we recommend releasing the mouse outdoors while keeping your hands behind the trap and gently lifting the release door from a safe distance. The trap should also remain intact during normal handling and cleaning, so the spring coming loose is not expected behavior.

Worked great!

Worked great! I had some bait to set it as well. Worked within a couple of days, which surprised me. I noticed him around my place so I knew he was around. The little mouse was so cute and he was a bit loud about getting caught so I noticed he was in there. I got to release him into a really nice large park away from things. He was really quiet but got all excited when I think he noticed we were outside. It took a bit to get him to move out of the trap. He ran off all happily. I was really happy I was able to catch a mouse and release him out in the wild where he belongs. :)

Every trap I have tried from Victor is Horrible! This one caught a mouse twice and the mouse got right back out. The other's I have tried they chew their way out before it can be checked in the morning. All useless! I have spent way too much money on them.

Poor quality control

Mar 11, 2025
There does not seem to be adequate quality control in the build process as the springs to keep the door closed once the mouse trips the trap were rattling around loose in the traps. That pretty much makes them useless as it's almost impossible to put the back in place.

This trap does work, but there is a design flaw that allows the mice to escape. The spring that holds the door flap shut can be easily knocked off by the mouse, therefore allowing the mouse to lift up the door flap and escape. I do recommend this product, but I would recommend some hot glue on the spring to make sure it can't fall off.

Q&A

How do you clean the traps after capture
Question by: Albert on Jan 24, 2026, 10:08 AM
After a capture, release the mouse and dispose of any bait or debris. Clean the Victor® Live Catch Mouse Trap by rinsing it with warm water and a mild soap, you can also use hydrogen peroxide for cleaning, then allow it to air dry completely before reuse. Cleaning between uses helps maintain proper operation and hygiene.

I recently bought a 2 pack of the Victor live catch mouse traps. One of the traps is missing the outer door. Is there anyway to order that replacement piece? We just need the clear cover that goes on the end where the bait goes.
