Bought two of these. Baited with peanut butter the first night. Woke up to cleanly licked traps. Tried again but added a raisin to the peanut butter. Once again woke up to a cleanly licked trap!
I'm extremely disappointed in this product.

We’re sorry to hear the Victor® Quick-Set™ Mouse Traps didn’t catch the mice as expected. For best results, use a small amount of bait and press it firmly into the bait cup so the mouse has to interact with the trigger while feeding. Peanut butter can work well, but using a small amount of another food-based bait may also help if the mice are avoiding it. Place the traps along walls or in areas where you’ve noticed mouse activity, with the bait end facing the wall. We hope these tips help improve the trap’s performance.
Worked great the first time, but is not reliably reusable

I bought a pair of these from my local Ace to try them out. I initially liked them as they caught a mouse quickly and the mouse died almost instantly when the traps were new out of the box. But the traps are almost impossible to reset — the mechanism won't catch to keep it open, and if by some miracle you get it to stay open long enough to place it, it will snap shut when you place it down — making the "reusable" claim highly questionable. The one I was able to get to work a couple times also showed evidence of not tripping properly. In one case, the bait bowl in the top had been licked clean of the peanut butter, but the trap had not triggered. In the other case, the trap had triggered, been dragged a few feet from where I had placed it, and had only a little mouse paw in the jaws to show for it. This says to me it triggered too early, clamped down on the mouse's paw, the mouse dragged the trap around (likely in horrible pain), then the mouse finally either gnawed off its paw or the damage from the trap resulted in the paw coming off from the dragging. Either way, the trap maimed rather than killed the mouse. I want to kill the mice as instantly as possible, not maim them.

For proper setup, place a small amount of bait in the bait cup and carefully pull the kill bar back until it locks into position. If the trap does not remain set or triggers during placement, we recommend discontinuing use of that trap. A properly functioning trap should activate when the trigger is engaged and the kill bar should remain set until then. I used this trap in an apartment where I was struggling with a mouse
Infestation. It did manage to catch and kill a mouse the night I put it out, but the poor mouse was able to drag its body and the trap across the room before it finally died.

The product photo clearly shows someone putting bait on the metal part, but the instructions say to put the bait in the bait cup in the upper plastic piece instead. No wonder people are having trouble baiting these.

Won't stay open

I have two of these and they seem effective at killing deer mice, but refuse to stay open when resetting the trap. When you finally get them to stay open, the slightest bump will trip them, including gently placing them on the floor or even just moving them through the air, which makes for a deeply unpleasant experience. Seems like a fundamental design flaw because both of my traps have the same problem.

These traps are designed to be very sensitive, but proper setup can help reduce accidental triggering. Make sure the trap is placed on a flat, stable surface, press the set bar firmly until it locks, and avoid touching the trigger area when positioning it. Setting the trap directly where it will be used, rather than moving it after setting, can also help.

These do NOT work. I had two of these set by my dog food, as well as two of the traditional wooden snap traps. Both of the Quick-Set traps were triggered and neither had a mouse. One of them had a small clump of hair in it and a small puddle of blood near it, so the mouse clearly didn't instantly die and was able to get out of the trap. The traditional wooden snap trap DID have a mouse in it. Do not waste your money on these Quick-Set traps. Get the old school ones with a proven track record. Zero stars is not an option, or that's what it would get. Disappointed that Victor let this toy trap go to market.

The trap is designed to deliver a quick, effective strike, so a triggered trap without a catch — or a catch that isn’t immediate — may indicate the mouse approached from the side instead of the front or that the strike bar didn’t align as intended. Placing the trap flush against a wall with the entrance facing the wall can help guide mice into the proper position for an effective strike.

Do you still make the traps that are easy set, reusable. The style that is flat on one side and rounded on other end? The mouse walks in. can't find them in stores this year. New design?

Victor® still makes the Quick-Set™ Mouse Traps that are easy to set and reusable with the classic flat base and rounded end design where the mouse walks in. Those traditional Quick-Set™ traps are still part of the Victor® lineup.
If you’re having trouble finding them in stores this year, it may be due to retailer stock levels or seasonal availability, not because they were discontinued. You can often find them online or ask your local store to check their stock or order them for you.
The product has not been replaced with a completely new design, so the trap with the easy-set, walk-in style is still available, typically if we offer them you can find them in our website, but if it is not being advertised or available in our website, more likely it has been discontinued.
