What is the best bait to use?
Question by: Kathryn Tator on Oct 24, 2020, 10:34 AM
Individuals in a rodent population search for different types of food. Anything like peanut butter, dry dog food, nuts, fruit or bacon is a great option. Try to use whatever bait the rodents are currently feeding on, but feel free to provide alternative choices as well. Remember, only a small amount of bait is needed!

What happens if the zapper gets wet or moisture? Can it be fixed
Question by: Sue on Jun 17, 2024, 12:49 PM
If the trap gets wet or is exposed to moisture it is unlikely to return to working order and should be replaced.

I thought there was a green light that goes on when there is no rat in the trap and no problems with batteries. I am on my second trap and when setup and baited a blinking red light goes on. How can I tell it has a rat in it? Is this trap defective like the first one I got?
Question by: Carol Fehner on Nov 8, 2024, 6:44 PM
When a rodent is caught, the red light will
flash once every 7 seconds. A rapid red flash
indicates that the batteries no longer have
enough power to kill a rodent.

My rat zapper has never worked. Changed batteries and it must have a short in it.

Do we need to clean the trap after a mouse is caught?
Question by: Lee on Dec 7, 2024, 1:35 PM
Thank you for reaching out. Regular cleaning helps maintain the functionality of the trap. To prevent damage to the mechanism or the sensors, which could affect its performance. Use a hydrogen peroxide topical solution (available at most drug stores) and an old toothbrush to clean the inside of the chamber. Use a wire brush as needed to remove any corrosion, being careful not to be too vigorous. This could accidentally remove all the protective zinc plating. Allow the interior and exterior of the kill chamber to air dry completely before reassembling.

If the interior floor gets soiled can it be flushed? Just the floor.

Can a Labrador Retriever be shocked by any exterior component of the trap? I keep her away from it but what happens if she touches the back?
Question by: Jane Masri on Feb 6, 2025, 4:56 PM
The Victor® Rat Zapper Ultra Electronic Rat Trap is designed to deliver an electric shock only within the trap's interior when a rodent completes the circuit by touching two metal plates. The exterior is typically insulated and should not pose a risk of shock to a Labrador Retriever or any other pet if they touch the outside.

Hello, can I use the zapper on the outside.
Question by: John Michel on Jul 29, 2025, 11:12 AM
Hi, thank you for reaching us. The trap was designed for indoor use only.
Answer by: Guillermo (Admin) on Jul 29, 2025, 12:14 PM
I have good luck with the rat zapper, however, I now have a new problem. Cockroaches are getting into the trap to eat the peanut butter. They trigger the trap but do not get killed. I have to reset frequently, but they are consuming all the bait. Any ideas? I am dealing primarily with rats eating citrus fruit in the trees and the trap is placed on the ground near a planter where the rats apparently live (per the dogs).
Question by: CAROLYN ROUZIER on Aug 13, 2025, 12:52 AM
Hi, thank you so much for your question! We recommend not using the product outside, as it’s designed for indoor use only. For outdoor use, you can try rodent killer pellets to target the rodents more effectively.
