Questions about Victor® Electronic Rat Trap

TAGS

Q.I switched to on position and the green light flashed on for a second. I didn’t hear a buzz. Is it on?
A.
We apologize for any confusion!  If the trap is flashing green when turned on, the trap is armed and ready. While the trap will often buzz as well, the buzz is fairly quiet and may be hard to hear if there is any background noise.
Q.can wifi be reprogram will they work without wifi
A.

This product does not require WiFi to operate.

Q.This there an electronic trap designed for outdoors? If so, what is the model#...if not, what is the best way to catch / kill a rat outdoors? Thank you.
A.

We do not currently offer electronic rodent traps that are designed for outdoor use. Snap traps or live catch traps can be used outdoors to catch or kill these rodents.

Q.Will the trap beep when it has a kill?
A.

A light will flash to indicate that there has been a kill.

Q.Which traps do you recommend for the occasional palm tree rats that get into the attic? They are on the small side, compared with say, NYC rats. Im afraid the traps that take D batteries may be overkill and frighten potential "inductees" away. I see the price is same for traps that use C batteries and traps that use D batteries.
A.

If you're worried about providing too much of a shock to the occasional palm rat, we recommend using the Victor® Electronic Rat Trap (M241). It provides a 6,000v shock to the rat as opposed to the Rat Zapper® Rat Traps, which provide between 7,000v-9,000v.

Q.The trap has worked very well, I think I have killed at least 6-8 rats. They have gotten smart though and now just open the bait trap at the back. It looks like they have even chewed through the latch part that keeps it locked closed. I now have to duct tape the door closed. Have you run into this before? thanks

Q.What is warranty for these traps?
A.

This trap is backed by a 30 day return policy and covered under a one year replacement policy.

Q.What is the difference between the BM 241 trap and the M 241 trap
A.

The M241 traps is the same. The B is indicating that it is a bundle.

Q.I have a rat living in my car engine. I have considered your snap traps/glue traps/poison, and am worried that if the rat is only injured, he may crawl off into engine compartment somewhere, and not be retrievable. I tried a Havahart trap - and he was too smart for that - he would just reach in from the side to get the bait. Would your shock traps be OK outside, but within the engine compartment? They would not be exposed to wet conditions, but may be cold at night. ( I do know I would have to remove prior to driving!) Thank you.
A.

We do not recommend using traps or repellents anywhere near an engine bay of a vehicle.

Q.My Victor electronic trap green light flashes and makes a clicking sound when I turn it on vs the normal green light going off with no clicking...what's wrong?
A.

Upon power up, there is a 3 sec test shock that is performed by the trap. This will occur 1 sec after the trap is switched on. The sound is not always audible.

Q.How many actual volts is used to kill the rat?
A.

This trap outputs 6,000 volts.

Q.How can I tell my smartkill electronic rat trap is actually on and armed?
A.

The powerd button on the trap will be depressed.

Q.Is it possible for the mouse to enter the trap, get shocked and be able to run out of the trap, eventually dying outside of the trap?
A.

When a rodent receives a shock from this trap, they will die inside of it.

Q.I have a rat under the hood of my car. Do you have an outdoor unit I can put on the driveway at night between the front tires?
A.

Currently, we do not have an electronic trap that we can recommend for outdoor use. We recommend using snap traps for outdoor use.

Q.What is the best way to clean the rat trap after I have caught a rat and disposed of it?
A.

We only recommend cleaning the trap if the residue has built up to the point where a rodent would not touch the metal plates. If this has occurred we recommend removing the batteries then using a hydrogen peroxide solution and an old toothbrush to gently clean away the debris. Allow the trap to air dry completely before reinserting the batteries.

Q.Does this unit work with smaller mice and smaller rats......(Will the weight of the animal be enough to initiate the life ending Zap)..? Also, is there an outdoor version available..?
A.

This unit will work for both mice and rats. We do not have a unit that is recommended for outdoor use.

Q.I have a M241 and a housecat. Is it safe to use the trap in the same area the cat is in? Thank you.
A.

We recommend using this trap with caution around pets.

Q.My rat trap light is flashing green constantly, I have cleaned the trap as instructed and it carries on flashing ??
A.

We recommend changing the batteries to a brand new set that was just recently purchased. Please feel free to contact our Consumer Relations Team at 1-855-5-VICTOR (1-855-584-2867) with any questions or for additional assistance.

Q.After I catch a mouse and discarded the mouse, do I have to turn it off and back on again to reset the trap?
A.

After each kill the trap will need to be turned off, cleaned, re-baited and then turned back on.

Q.I put peanut butter in the bait cup and turned on the trap. The green light did flash on. A couple days latter I was surprised not to find a rat because we have seen a few running around. So I checked the bait cup to find that much of the peanut butter was missing. I double checked that the trap was on and it was. How is the best was to verify that the trap is working properly? I rather not keep feeding these guys. Thank you Henry
A.

As long as the green light flashes once when the trap is turned on, it is working correctly. We recommend cleaning the trap with a hydrogen peroxide solution (first turning the trap off and removing the batteries) and then baiting the trap with a toothpick amount of peanut butter in the bait cup provided.

Q.What causes a buzzing SOUND and light to stay red.
A.

If the unit is buzzing without a catch, we recommend cleaning it to make sure that there is no debris on the metal plates causing the trap to think a rodent is inside.

To do this:

  • Turn the trap off and remove the batteries.
  • Use a hydrogen peroxide topical solution (available at most drug stores) and an old toothbrush to clean the inside of the chamber. If needed, use a wire brush to remove any corrosion, being careful not to be too vigorous. This could accidentally remove all of the protective zinc plating.
  • Allow the interior and exterior of the kill chamber to air dry completely before reassembling.
  • Bait the trap.
  • Re-insert the batteries and turn the trap on.

Q.Will the trap work out doors in rainy weather?
A.

No, this trap is for indoor use only.

Q.My Victor rat trap light blinks green when turned on but there is no buzz. Unit is brand new.
A.

This trap may have a slight buzzing noise when the unit is first turned on. As long as the green light flashes once when the trap is first turned on, the unit is working correctly.

Q.I recently purchased a victor electronic rat trap Model M241 it worked great for about one month or 30 rats but it’s now showing the LED green light and The LED red light at the same time and its not working. I will like to know if there is something I can do or what do the lights mean?
A.

A red light indicates low battery life. We recommend cleaning the trap and replacing the batteries. To clean the trap, please follow the instructions below :

  • Turn the trap off and remove the batteries.
  • Use a hydrogen peroxide topical solution (available at most drug stores) and an old toothbrush to clean the inside of the chamber. If needed, use a wire brush to remove any corrosion, being careful not to be too vigorous. This could accidentally remove all of the protective zinc plating.
  • Allow the interior and exterior of the kill chamber to air dry completely before reassembling.
  • Bait the trap.
  • Re-insert the batteries and turn the trap on.

We hope this information was helpful! Please feel free to contact our Consumer Relations Team at 1-855-5-VICTOR (1-855-584-2867) with any questions or for additional assistance.

Q.Will this trap also work on mice as well ?
