Helpfulness
Bought 3, all faulty.
Jan 11, 2026
Bought 3, all faulty. I historically had much success with the prior generation of the Victor electronic traps and was disappointed when the local Home Depot stopped carrying them, so when the mice started coming indoors when the weather got cold, I was happy to buy the new version. The QA on these devices is abysmal. The 3 devices shipped to me properly charged but the lids closed poorly. None fit properly; it seems the plastic injection process isn't matching the pieces closely enough. By squeezing the base I got the covers to close and properly set the safety switch, and each device pulsed green showing properly charged. I didn't hear the telltale buzzing of the older devices which was the capacitor charging up, but I figured that was just normal in the new design. All three traps failed to shock mice. I know the mice came and went because there were fresh droppings on the metal contacts in each device and the bait was gone. None of the devices delivered a shock because the light was dark after the mice's meal time. I should have charged them for eating at Victor's Restaurant.

Thank you for sharing your detailed feedback on the Victor® Electronic Mouse Trap. We’re sorry to hear about your experience and understand how frustrating this must have been, especially given your past success with earlier models. What you described with the lid fit and lack of activation isn’t expected performance.
For proper operation, it’s important that the lid is fully closed so the safety switch is engaged, the metal contacts are kept clean and dry, and the trap is placed flat against a wall where mice travel. Even so, the results you reported indicate the traps may not be functioning as intended.
We’d like to help resolve this. Please contact us and our team will be happy to assist further.
It doesn’t work.

It doesn’t work. Bought today put brand new batteries in and it won’t stop blinking red. Changed to more new batteries and same thing. A waste of $25.

Thank you for sharing your experience with the Victor® Electronic Mouse Trap. We’re sorry to hear about the issue. A blinking red light usually indicates the trap door is not fully closed or the metal plates inside are not making proper contact. Making sure the trap is closed firmly, the kill chamber is clean and dry, and the batteries are installed correctly can often resolve this.
If the light continues blinking and the trap is not functioning as intended, please contact us we’ll be happy to help.

Great product that really works!

Great product that really works! It's clean, humane, and easy to use if you follow the instructions.
There is, however, a design flaw in the new model. The hexagonal scent holes are way too large. The mice get their teeth in and chew right through. The bait is located right next to those openings so mice are not motivated to find the main entrance. The previous model had much smaller scent holes so this was never a problem. Also, the bait shelf is very narrow. There use to be a small depression like a cup which sat below the recent holes which was easier to fill. That being said, this is still the best choice for "a better mouse trap".

It was great, until it wasn't.

It was great, until the refill cartridges sold out. I should have kept and cleaned my old cartridges instead of throwing them away, but had no idea there were no more refills to buy.

We’re sorry to hear about the difficulty finding refill cartridges for the Victor® Electronic Mouse Trap. Availability can vary by retailer, but the cartridges can be cleaned and reused by removing debris and wiping the interior with a damp cloth and hydrogen peroxide.

I was originally going to write a great review. After setting it up with batteries after purchase in 11/01/25 I set it and caught a mouse within 5 hours. After that nothing. I set up tomcat glue sticks and caught 4 more. The only that that happened with the electric mouse trap is that they ate the bait.

I’ve been using the Wi-Fi version for eight years I have no idea why you guys discontinued it. This new version has major problems one I never know when there’s a mouse in it the light needs to flicker like every two seconds once there’s a mouse in it I don’t care about the battery life my Wi-Fi one lasted seven years and one set of batteries with 30 kills. It needs a removable side so that when it gets all gross from decaying animals in it you can replace it. And the holes for the vent where the bait goes is too big all the mice are chewing through it in one night and ruining the traps. Now I have caught four mice in one night in four traps. But these traps aren’t gonna last they’re destroying them I’m chewing them apart need improvement go back to Wi-Fi the exact design was flawless but make it work with newer Wi-Fi and mesh networks

Instructions are too tiny to read

The combination of a poor reproduction and tiny type makes the instructions hard to read without a magnifying glass

After setting up the first unit, the mice were eating the bait with no kills. I put my fingers on both of the plates and felt no electrical shock. Victor Customer service told me that I might have a damaged unit. They replaced it free of charge and sent me a new unit. That one had the same problem. They then sent me the Victor Zapper Max (5 times the cost) free of charge. That one is working.

I don't usually write reviews ...

I don't usually write reviews but when something works really well, I want others to know. I saw a mouse Friday morning scurry across the kitchen floor. I have a significant mouse phobia so immediately thought we needed another cat! Most mouse traps aren't humane, they injure without killing or make them suffer and then you have to do the deed. We put out this trap late Sunday afternoon, by Tuesday morning we had caught one. It was definitely dead, and it was easy to dispose.
