Voles

Vole Facts

Voles may be small, but they are a force to be reckoned with. If these underground, fast-breeding varmints have ever invaded your lawn or garden, you know what we're talking about. Voles may not be life-threatening and maybe no one has ever died from having them in their yard, but we're betting the problem is front and center for those of you who have had their lawns destroyed by these covert invaders.

It's an undisputable fact that voles have exceptional burrowing and tunneling abilities. Just ask any homeowner who has experienced the misfortune of having their garden destroyed by voles, or a tree killed by these destructive rodents. They'll tell you.

Voles - Control Options

Traps

When dealing with smaller vole infestations, trapping is an excellent control option. The best way to trap voles is with an expanded trigger mousetrap. The Victor® Easy Set® Mouse Trap is easily activated by accidental contact as voles move through turf, ground cover and mulch in search of food.

Traps can be placed near vole burrows, beneath natural groundcover or directly in turf runways. Broadened areas of the runway, or locations where several runways converge, are also good trap locations.

Using bait on snap traps is not necessary because voles move through runways in a habitual manner and will run right over whatever happens to fall in their paths. For traps that are placed beneath cover, smudges of peanut butter mixed with oatmeal provide an enticing treat to voles.

Repellents

Voles can safely and easily be repelled from lawns and gardens with the Victor® line of granular and spray repellents and sonic spike repellers.

Victor® Dual Action Tunnel Penetrating Formula Granular Repellent and Victor® Repellent Yard Spray can both be used to safely steer voles out of your yard. Both products rely on a dual action formula that repels voles by taste and smell. Victor® repellents are safe to use on lawns and gardens as well as around children and pets.

Homeowners can also drive voles from lawns and gardens with Victor® Sonic Spikes and Victor® Solar Powered Sonic Spikes. When inserted in the ground, both spikes emit penetrating sonic pulses every 30 seconds. The high pitched sound is extremely irritating to voles, prompting them to leave the property within 7 to 14 days.
