Vole–Control
The number one way to control voles is by following a comprehensive approach. This means using multiple methods together to maximize your chances of success. To effectively get rid of voles, implement a proactive routine: trap and repel.
Trap
When dealing with smaller vole infestations, traps are an excellent control option. Traps can be placed near vole burrows, beneath natural groundcover, or directly in turf runways. Broadened areas of the runway, or locations where several runways converge, are also good trap locations. The traps will be activated by accidental contact as voles move through their runways in search of food.
Using bait on snap traps is not necessary because voles move through runways in a habitual manner and will run right over whatever happens to fall in their paths. For traps that are placed beneath cover, smudges of peanut butter mixed with oatmeal provide an enticing treat to voles.
Repel
The next step is to implement repellents. Ultrasonic repellers drive away voles by pentrating the ground with high frequency sound waves every 30 seconds. The high pitched sound is extremely irritating to voles, prompting them to leave the property within 7 to 14 days.
Alternatively, liquid or granular repellents drive voles away naturally by targeting their senses of taste and smell. These types of repellents use ingredients like castor oil to make the environment unpleasant to pests. It's crucial to note that repellents are most effective when used in conjunction with traps. Once the problem is under control, continue using repellents to prevent voles from returning.
