Sonic Spikes

The mole and gopher sonic spike is designed with a convenient removable battery sleeve for trouble-free battery replacement. A Spike will work for 4 – 6 months on one set of alkaline batteries*. Spike must be used continuously for 7-14 days before moles and gophers start to move away from the area.

Be sure to insert the Spike into the soil so that the cap is flush with the ground to avoid tripping hazards and the chance of hitting it with a lawnmower. Effectiveness depends largely upon soil type: dry, sandy or peat soil does not conduct the sonic waves easily. Moist clay is the best conductor of sound.

*Spikes use 3 "D" cell batteries, not included.

How to Use

  • STEP 1-To open, unscrew YELLOW cap counter-clockwise.
  • STEP 2-Remove battery cartridge and insert 3 "D" cell batteries.  Re-insert the battery cartridge into the Spike. If battery installation is correct, you will hear the first vibrating sound within 15 seconds.
  • STEP 3-Tighten the cap securely to keep moisture out.
  • STEP 4-Use a wooden or steel rod to make pilot holes prior to inserting the Mole & Gopher Sonic Spikes™. To prevent damage, do not hammer the Spike into the ground.
  • STEP 5-Insert Spike until the bottom of the cap begins touching the ground.
  • STEP 6-Insert Spike all the way into the ground. This will prevent the chance of hitting it with a lawnmower.  Be certain to insert the Spike so that the cap is flush with the ground. If it protrudes an inch or two it could be a tripping hazard.  Remember whrere the Spike is located so it may be removed for battery replacement.
  • STEP 7-Remove Sonic Spike™ when flooding may occur or before ground freezes.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from SUX I have had two of these in the ground for a weeks and the beasts have new tunnels within inches of the stakes. They work so poorly that they only Repel me and nothing more.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible Investment - Totally Useless! I purchased two twin-packs of these spikes and installed them according to the box instructions. I was fine for about two weeks, then an onslaught of moles has turned my nice yard into a maze of tunnels. All 4 spikes are still beeping, but are doing nothing to keep moles out of my hard. One tunnel runs right past a spike - quite spiteful! I wish I had never purchased these things. Very frustrating.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Actually Works but be patient After battling gophers for couple of months on my back lawn, I decided to give this product a try as it was on sale at local hardware store and I had tried just about everything else. It seems to be working. I bought the solar powered one which seems to be a good idea based on some other comments about battery life. At first I thought it was not operating but then came to realize it only "beeps" about every 30 seconds, not constant. Also, as mentioned on the box it takes some days to become effective. The first day I had a hole near the same area, the next two days- holes but about 5 feet away from original area, finally after about 5 days and now for about a week- no holes. Hoping it continues to work and my back lawn can get back to normal.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great I have two sonic spikes covering 1500-2000 sq ft. In one month the moles were gone and have not been back in 6 months now. Batteries hold up well. Make sure you pull them out before you mow over them. Ask me how I know!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Helpful hints for Spikes My spikes worked but it takes longer than 5 days. It took about 21 days to work. What would help if the company showed how to setup the spikes up (ex. how fare apart and locations). Also you must move them as the gophers start to leave. The hardest thing is to get the spikes in the ground. It would be very helpful if they had a tool go with it. Good Luck

All About
learn about mole and mole trap

Moles

Moles are helpful in that they remove damaging insects and grubs from lawns and gardens. Unfortunately, however, their burrowing habits can destroy grass, gardens and flower beds and tear up tree roots.

Gophers

learn about gopher and gopher trap

Gophers excavate soil from their tunnels, creating large, horseshoe-shaped mounds.  Gopher mounds are typically larger than Mole hills with the entrance hole at an angle to the ground surface.
