1Sweeney’s® Sonic Spike™ is rated out of 5 by 9.Rated 5 out of 5 by Anonymous from Works great I have two sonic spikes covering 1500-2000 sq ft. In one month the moles were gone and have not been back in 6 months now. Batteries hold up well. Make sure you pull them out before you mow over them. Ask me how I know!Date published: 2015-04-13Rated 4 out of 5 by Anonymous from Helpful hints for Spikes My spikes worked but it takes longer than 5 days. It took about 21 days to work. What would help if the company showed how to setup the spikes up (ex. how fare apart and locations). Also you must move them as the gophers start to leave. The hardest thing is to get the spikes in the ground. It would be very helpful if they had a tool go with it. Good Luck RESPONSE FROM SWEENEY'S SEPTEMBER 26, 2014 Dear Bill, The Sonic Spikes™ must be used continuously for 7-14 days before ground rodents begin to move away from the area. The setup of the spikes at each property will vary based on the size of the area you are looking to cover and any obstructions that may block the signal. Each individual spike will cover up to 7,500 sq. ft. The sound is projected out from the spike in a circle with an approximate diameter of 95 ft. It is very important to create pilot holes in the soil before inserting the spike. We recommend simply using a wooden or steel rod (or stake) to create the pilot holes. I've had them pop up just after mowing a spot. I get turned around and there it is. They nest in the trees next to one lawn area and have terrorized the lawn. I put a spike here just before growing season and to date, not a single mole. The next area is very large and more than the 95 ft specified. I put a spike in the middle with about 95% success. The first mole that popped up was exactly on the stick. I believe there is one in the nest that suffers with tinnitus. Other than that I'm extremely satisfied. RESPONSE FROM SWEENEY'S JUNE 07, 2014 Dear Ron, Thank you for sharing your experience with the Sonic Spikes. We are happy to hear how well they have worked to keep the pesky moles out of your yard. Moles are curious creatures, so they may occasionally dig tunnels closer to the spike to investigate where the sound is coming from. After a few days of hearing the constant buzzing, they will typically look for quieter places to live. We hope that you continue to have success with these spikes in your yard. Does the mole & gopher sonic spike always emit an audible noise? I bought 2 and as soon as I got them into the sun they started emitting an audible noise that is also going to drive us humans away. Also, the on/off switch doesn't affect the noise...why?

Moles are helpful in that they remove damaging insects and grubs from lawns and gardens. Unfortunately, however, their burrowing habits can destroy grass, gardens and flower beds and tear up tree roots.
Gophers excavate soil from their tunnels, creating large, horseshoe-shaped mounds. Gopher mounds are typically larger than Mole hills with the entrance hole at an angle to the ground surface.
