I have had this item running outside constantly for 3 years now. When it was new, the horses would get a arc-shock from the fence for just getting within a couple inches. It isn't that strong now, but still works its magic.
Thank you for your feedback! We are pleased to hear you have been satisfied using your Fi-Shock® 20 Mile Heavy Duty Charger (model SS-1000X). If your charger does not seem to be producing optimal output it could be due to dry soil conditions. Dry soil conditions can insulate the ground surface making it more difficult to conduct voltage. There are a few things you can do to overcome this grounding issue. We recommend using 3 ground rods – 6’-8’ long. When using 3 ground rods you will surely hit the water table under the earth. For areas that are dry, sandy or rocky you may need to consider setting your fence up using the 2 wire system. A two wire system is a great way to help the animal complete the circuit by touching the “hot” and a ground wire at the same time. For more information on grounding including diagram of the two wire system feel free to visit us at http://www.fishock.com/advice/all-about/grounding.

The force will definitely be with you, if you install one of these chargers. This fence charger is perfect for keeping predators out, and strong enough to pack a punch, for those enclosed by it. After one or two times of testing it, my rough and rowdy bulldogs want no part of this system. We've had this charger now for several months and it works like a charm. Also, like the other poster says, this unit is what the old-timers used to call weed/grass burners. It is not susceptible to shorting out, like other weaker units are, when it comes to taller grass or weeds. The heavy duty definitely applies here. If you are looking for a good, strong fence charger, look no further. I would give it 6 stars if I could!
