There are several problems with this new type of trap. The first is that the mechanism is just too complicated, too many things to go wrong and only small alignment problems make it not work. The trigger requires a significant weight, unlike previous Havahart traps. It is easy for all the rods, wires and other parts to get out of place. Just a few cleanings (as suggested in the directions) caused all the moving parts to get gummed up, even rusty. Even with a brand new trap, a rat was able to get free because the door has no hard locking mechanism, it is metal door against a plastic bar and the rat was able to push it open. What is even more disappointing is that they no longer carry the tried and true two door rat traps online. I am very disappointed in these new traps. It is obvious that they did not thoroughly test them.
