Unlike traditional snap traps, the Victor Electronic Rat Trap uses a high-voltage, quick and humane shock that kills the rats in your house or on your property. Since rats have the ability to restart their hearts after an electrical shock, the Victor Electronic Rat Trap applies shock for 2 minutes ensuring a high kill rate. The Victor Electronic Rat Trap is as efficient as it is effective, killing up to 50 rats per set of 4 "C" batteries (not included).
How It Works
The Victor Electronic Rat Trap is equipped with advanced smart circuit technology that senses when a rodent enters the trap. Once the rodent is inside, the rat steps onto the metal plates, completing the circuit and the trap delivers a quick, humane 7,000 volt shock to kill the rat. Since rats have the ability to restart their hearts, the shock is applied for 2 minutes ensuring a high kill rate. Each time the trap catches a rat, the light on top of the trap flashes green for up to 24 hours to indicate a kill. If the batteries are low or need to be replaced, a red light will blink. To dispose of the rat, just dump the rodent directly into the trash for a hygienic and safe, no-touch, no-see disposal. The trap can either be reset or discarded. To reset, re-bait, place and turn on the trap for continued rodent control. Should an unlikely escape occur, the trap will reset itself. The trap can kill up to 50 rats per set of four "C" batteries.
The Victor Electronic Rat Trap is easy to use. Simply insert the batteries, bait, place the trap along the wall, turn the trap on and empty. First, insert 4 "C" batteries into the battery compartment. Bait the trap through the hole in the back wall using a small amount of peanut butter, bacon, dry pet food or nuts. Be sure to use a Q-tip, toothpick or another tool to bait so your scent is not transferred onto the trap. Place the trap where you have seen signs of rodent activity or along the wall where rodents primarily travel. Turn the Victor Electronic Rat Trap on. A green light will blink once showing the trap is working properly.
The Victor Electronic Rat trap is safe for use anywhere in the home and can be used for years to ensure effective rat control. It is ideal for attics, garages, basements and sheds. The trap has no poisons or chemicals, but please use caution when using around children and pets.
We had an issue and purchased this item. Very skeptical about it working. Within 3 days our rat was dead in the trap. Advice is be patient and let it get used to the trap being in the environment. We left it off for the first 2 days to get the rat used to going inside. On the 3rd night we found him dead inside. It was much cleaner than a traditional snap trap. We were able just to dump it out. Two thumbs up!
Problem solved!October 25, 2013
I have roof rats in my garage. I have a lot of storage, so they have lots of places to nest and hide. First I put out poison bait, and then realized they would go back to their nests, die, rot, and stink....leaving me to clean up a nasty mess. I saw the Victor Electronic rat trap and was intrigued. Read the other reviews...saw a few negatives and that worried me. Despite that, I went ahead and bought one...followed the advise I read from some of the reviews....and WOW! In no time at all, I was a successful big game hunter! The first rat I caught was huge! This trap is freaking AWESOME! A small chunk of dog food, and a dab of peanut butter is what I used. This trap works...period! End of conversation! Easy to empty, and use over and over again.
"Harold" is history!March 14, 2013
After unwittingly & unwillingly sharing my home with a large rat (we named Harold) for three uncomfortable nights, it was time to do something special. I'd already spent almost $20 on all kinds of 'snap' traps - but Harold was either too fast, too clever, or too cunning to be caught by any of them. After reading the reviews, I thought I gotta try this. Set up was easy: peanut butter, a damp paper towel in front, and a quiet few hours away from the house. My arrival home was greeted by the flashing green light.. and Harold's long tail sticking out of his final resting place. It was almost too good to be true & the best 40 bucks I've spent in a long time. RIP Harold!!
Love It!March 04, 2013
I have had a flying squirrel problem in my garage for about a year. I had tried many different traps without any success. I just purchased on of the rat traps and it has worked great. I now have two traps going and have now caught 9 squirrels and counting! Best traps out there! Thanks, Greg
Need help - Victor electronic trap is not able to catch the ratJanuary 14, 2013
HI, the unit was working all along for the last 3 years. we had not used it for more than 1 year. Last week I took it out after observing the rat dropping. I put on the bait as described in your manual, turned it on and saw the green light -heard the buzz. However it is unable to catch the rat. It come and licks/eats the peanut butter bait . are the batteries weak? . I have it on for 5 consecutive days now. Rat(s) come , eat the bait and put their droppings around it. Is the rat trap working ?. how do I know it ?. the light is green when I turn it on and I do hear the buzz before it goes off. any suggestion - please help. Works greatJanuary 09, 2013
I looked around at several places to find the best mouse trap for my residence. Have a large dog in the yard and did not want chemicals around him. Looked a several reviews that showed outstanding reviews for this product. Said what the heck, kind of expensive, but if if works it worth a lot more. Heck of a lot easier to use than a flip trap and easy clean up. Put out first night and bam dead mouse. Before buying I thought it wouldn't work right, but would buy in a heartbeat again.
Great ProductJanuary 08, 2013
I have been real pleased with this item. It does the job. I would recommend this for anyone that has a mouse or rat problem.

I bought this last year and caught a couple of small rats using peanut buitter. It wasn't until last night that I hit on the right bait to use: sunflower seeds and peanuts in the shell. Just last night and today alone, I've caught 3 large rats. This thing works, just use the right bait. RESPONSE FROM VICTOR PEST DECEMBER 12, 2012 Dear Gary, Thank you for submitting your online review of the Victor® Electronic Rat Trap (model M240). one last ratSeptember 30, 2012
We in the midst of remodeling our kitchen when my wife found rat poop. We immediately called an exterminator who charged us a large amount of money to get rid of the problem. He sealed the house and put out a bunch of old fashioned traps out. We caught 7 rats. Since we have a dog, I am always careful about putting the traps out after he he is locked in our bedroom for the night. We thought we were home free until we found a half eaten hamburger bun. Gross. We tried for weeks to catch the rat. We changed bait and still nothing. I went to home depot and bought the electronic trap and caught the rat the first night. Man, I hope we are done. This trap is far less conspicous then the old fashion traps and less dangerous to my dog. I was very pleased with the trap, but I hope that we are done with the rat issue. No more green poison for my dog to findSeptember 29, 2012
This fall I used the black plastic boxes with the rat bait blocks, and found my dog with one in her mouth. She had not consumed it, but the thought of her getting poisoned was enough for me to look for a better solution. I purchased three rat electronic rat traps and three mouse traps. I really like the rat traps because they are open and you can just tilt the trap to dispose of the mouse. I don't find that the light flashes when I catch a mouse, but since I check them every day, I really don't care. I highly recommend both and will be ordering more to place in the garage and barn now. Your traps work and work and work. I recently ordered 3 more and am now supplying friends with your traps. LOL Your traps even work on ground squirrels! The one we just caught is SO BIG it did not even fit IN THE trap. WOW!!!! I set your trap indoors, outdoors, and under and in my cars...we live in the mountains and rodents abound and can be very costly when they go where they should not. I now own 7 of them. One trap is setting on my feed cans outside baited with alpaca pellets, I had no idea that the ground squirrels were helping themselves of my feed, but this ONE trap has single handedly caught about 20 rats, mice, and now a squirrel in the last month in this one location. I keep the lids on the cans, one is for chicken feed and the other Alpaca feed. Makes no difference they still come. WonderfulJune 07, 2012
We had our kitchen remoldeled and the mice came in. I am so affraid of mice. My husband brought this trap from Home Depot. I love this trap. The fist night we caught 1. It would have been more had I known that after disposing the dead mouse you have to clean out the trap and rebait it. In the next three days we had caught an additional 2. I have no problem baiting this trap. I still dont like picking it up when the light is flashing. All in all it works wonderful.
Expensive but worth itMay 12, 2012
We have been trying for months to get rid of the rats and mice on our property. We live near a large wooded area, and do not want to poison rodents outdoors in case hawks or owls find them before they die, so our progress in extermination has been rather poor.It took the rodents about a week to become interested in this unit, so for a while I thought I had wasted my money. Surprisingly, today this unit killed SIX rodents; four mice and two rats. We baited it with a little chicken scratch instead of the peanut butter. Every time I went out to check on it, there was another dead rodent in it.I like that the kill is instant and I can just dump the dead animal in the trash and don't have to touch it. Using the grain and corn based bait worked well, and I don't have to try to clean out old peanut butter from the back of the unit.

Reviewer: finally relaxed
I had a little critter that practically laughed at me for months. Everything I tried failed. I didn't want to see a dead or squirming rodent, so I tried every trap that said "humane" ...finally when I was ready to move out and let the thing take the house, I ordered the Victore electronic trap. Hurray! I set it, went to work and the flashing lilght was going when I got home. One little tip into the trash went my tormentor.
It is a lifesaverFebruary 26, 2012
I tried 3 different brands of "trap door" traps to catch flying squirrels in my attic. They were too quick to get trapped. Bought this and killed 4 this week. I was beginning to think I would never get these pests out of my home. It is a lifesaver.
Caught the Mouse!!!February 26, 2012
We were hearing noises on our roof and since we had a mice problem 7 years ago we thought of putting this trap (7 years ago we paid $500 to remove the mouse and close entry points in the house)... didn't want to spend that this time!!!We put the trap and surely caught the mouse the 2nd day! And it was pretty big.... Thanks for making products that work!!!!
Works Like a CharmOctober 21, 2011
Don't waste your time and/or money with other traps. This rat trap may cost a little more, but you really do get what you pay for. I am very satisfied with this trap. Works like a charm. And there's no poison involved.
I LOVE this thing!!September 21, 2011
I LOVE this thing!! It caught (2) mice in my house in a matter of a week!. It allowed me to place it in an inconspicuous place in my kitchen, and 2 days later the little green light was blinking. Sure enough, it had a mouse in it. I dumped it, cleaned it (very important), and rebaited it, and placed it in my living room. Sure enough, 2 days later, the little green light was blinking; it caught another mouse! No Mess:no Fuss, rebaited it, cleaned it, and placed it back in the Living room to see if there are more. I reccommend it to ANY and EVERY one that has an INDOOR rat/mouse problem, AND especially if there are children/pets around. No Poisons to hide or worry about and no need to worry about a Poisoned rat/mouse getting devoured by your favorite pet! No need to keep those kinds of poisons around!Buy it- Buy it- Buy it- !!!

Bought the Victor Electronic Rat Trap in October of 2010. Worked great, clean & lethal. Well last week it became evident that we needed to put it in use again but something was wrong, it didn't function. So this weekend I had some spare time and shot an e-mail in from the customer service site and Monday morning I had a response, Monday evening I was using the online chat assist, was advised to disarm (remove batteries) and wipe down the plates with a damp cloth. Tuesday AM I have the flashing green "occupied" light and a dispatched rodent! Thanks Lindsay!

I've been having a terrible time with ground squirrels raiding my veggie patch. I tried chicken wire, a super-soaker, and an air rifle but had no luck deterring the critters. Then I had an idea...since the little buggers are about the size of a well fed rat, I gave the Electronic Rat trap a try. Let me just say after just 15 minutes of baiting and setting it out, I got my first squirrel! It was working like a charm, then for some cosmic reason it seemed to short out and stopped working after about a month of use (and 4 squirrels). I contacted customer service and they were fantastic: They are sending a new one via UPS. Excellent!
Works so good its scaryAugust 05, 2011
I bought this device as I had rats that killed 3 baby chicks in my barn. I put it out and nothing for two days. Then I had dead rats all over the place. Apparently, these rats were zapped and crawled away, then died? Good enough for me.

I purchased the Electronic Rat Trap from Home Depot but really needed it for mice. Our local field mice are very small and they can walk over a baited snap trap. The Rat Trap works great even for these mini mice. I would also suggest using just a peanut as it is easier and also very effective. Just drop in a single peanut and move the trap so the peanut is in the corner (or any where near the back wall). The first time I tried the unit I baited with peanut butter. I may have had the bait not close enough to the back wall. It was on the last plate but near the leading edge but in the morining the peanut butter was gone and no mouse. So my next attempt I did move the peanut butter to the rear wall and bang... we had a mouse. Just before writing this blog I tried a single peanut as an experiment and went back to the trap to see what model I bought...bang we already bagged another. A side benefit for using a peanut is that it was real easy to reload...note I think anything greasy like chips or whatever will work just as well.........
Zaps water roaches too!April 20, 2011
I bought my unit about 3 yrs ago (don't ask my why I have a 24lb cat that think's every small critter is a squeeky toy. He won't kill it, just play with it) I bought my unit to get rid of this thing that was running around. And within a day, got him. I still set it because I figured he had a friend, or two.. No more mice or rats but it will wipe out water roaches as well. I catch them in the trap all the time!.. (of course when the light is flashing, I'm thinking, ok what now?). It does a great job. Came down yesterday and the light was flashing red. ALL I could think, OMG I have the mother load.. only to find out the batteries were going out!. ] Thanks you guys.. NOW if you'd only make ones for bigger critters such as possum and coons... but afaid that would be big enough for a cat to get zapped.. I love mine, and I'm a single lady as well!... So I always know that it's on and it's going to catch whatever that isn't invited.. OK hint, dont put your finger in to make sure that it's on.. will zap YOU.. Wish it had a ON OFF switch tho. O and I doesn't make sense to me. It's either ON or off!..
DOESN'T JUST CATCH RATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!April 02, 2011
Reviewer: Charles F.
I have to admit, wasn't sure if I should pick up this item or not so I took a chance. In that attic of my residence, I heard noises that I believed to be rats or some rodent running around. I heard scratching noises the whole time and barely sleep because of it. So that's when I decided to buy the electronic trap. After doing some research based on the activity I heard, it wasn't rats. I was then told that it could be squirrels in my attic. Thinking to myself that they are not going to fall for peanut butter but any rodent will eat it if they get hungry enough. After 9 days and no results I was about to take it down from the attic. I still heard the noise by day 10 but this time it was closer to the electronic trap. So I figure that I'll take it down after lunch. Well, the noise appeared to be gone but I figured it was running around elsewhere. As soon as I opened the entrance to the attic, there it was. A "Squirrel" had been caught!!!! So after a week with no results, I had my doubts. After being a little patient, the trap did what it was suppose to do and now maybe I can get some sleep.

When I realized I had an unwanted visitor in my house, I did want anyone would do - setup some traps and found that the little guy was eating the cheese but the trap was never catching him! After about two weeks of this I had to find something else. I went on line and bought the Victor M2524, after I set it I figured the problem would be solved…no such luck. I think the hole in this unit is too small for the guys I had! So I went to home depot and bought another Victor Electronic trap (M240). I set this out and presto, the next morning we had our catch! It was clean and easy. I went ahead and set it up again to make sure there were no more, that night the Victor caught 3 more rats with the lights on while we were awake and watching TV. Holy cow, I cannot believe it!! I will be getting another one of these units to put in the garage/entrance way. That is the one downside to living on property…thank you for your incredible device; you made our home rodent free!

We have a house in the country and have had a problem going on about six months now. We bought one of these electronic rat zappers and set it up killed one first night, one second night, one the third. Now for the ultimate I killed 3 last night, one ten minutes after the other, one more about 20 minutes later. Just baited with peanut butter. Works great guys! 6 kills in 4 nights. Thank you.

Set it and put it under my sink. First rat dead in 20 minutes. Can't wait for the rest to follow suit.
Yeah, it works. Rather well at that!February 11, 2011
Borrowed this from a neighbor. Mother in law had a little "rodent" problem with a rather large field mouse taking up winter residency in her car and making a mess all over. We live in the country. I set it and left it in her trunk and low-and-behold I got a little bugger the first night. I reset it and put it back in the trunk just in cans a couple of it's family came to the funeral and caught 3 more. It's been a month now without another episode so I'm going to get one of my own and give my neighbor's back. If there's any gripe I might have; it's the fact that the battery cover is a real bear to get off without tools and the "on-off" switch is in a location where you can turn the unit on and off accidently. When trying to take the battery cover off, apparently I turned the unit on. I placed the palm of my hand on the battery terminals and received a pretty nasty zap from them. Yikes, I can see why Willard and friends didn't get out alive! This is a good product... buy it!
Very SatisfiedFebruary 06, 2011
I love this trap. I’ve had it for about a year and a half. My house is being remodeled, slowly, and there are a lot of access points for rats to come in. I usually have the most rats during the winter. Last winter I had a family of rats and killed 11 in less than two days. They were even coming in during daylight hours and I spent a day constantly checking the trap and emptying it. I purchased the ‘rat’ trap because it’s larger than the ‘mouse’ trap.I highly recommend rechargeable batteries so if you go a long time without a problem you can simply recharge the batteries and you’re go to go. Also, my rats prefer cheese (Velveeta) and baiting the entry to the trap really helps lure them in.Happy hunting...
It works!January 08, 2011
I bought this on a Thursday. I checked the trap on Friday, and it looks like a rat may have licked the peanut butter via the holes on the back of the trap. So I put the peanut butter lower in the trap, basically on the floor. Saturday morning I saw how effective this unit is. The rat had peanut butter on it's face, and it was dead!If you have mice/rats, get this trap. It is clean, easy to use, and humane.

We purchased our first M240 rat trap a few years ago when we had a "family" of rats having a party in our attic every night. The problem was solved in a short time. We have recently discovered another problem arising. When i went to pull the trap out to use again it was not doing the job like it had done a few years ago. I had no problem spending the money again to purchase a new one. WELL WORTH EVERY DIME for the peace of mind it gives me!!

The store did not have the smaller mouse version, so I got this larger one for rats. THIS WORKED LIKE A CHARM...THE FIRST ONE WAS CAUGHT WITHIN AN HOUR! It is the cleanest, MOST HUMANE way to kill them AND I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE WITH A RODENT PROBLEM! 5-STAR RATING!!!

The Green Mile -- Mr. Bojangles, beware!December 07, 2010
After several nights with no luck using the classic rat traps (which included some nerve-wracking near misses with myself, my daughter, and my dog), I decided it was time to try something different. I didn't want to set out poison because of the inherent dangers, but I hadn't ruled it out as an option. Then I saw this product on the store shelf, and, even though the cost was higher than my other extermination options, I felt it was safer and cleaner than anything else. So I decided to give it a whirl. Night #1: I baited it but didn't turn it on, and I put it where I knew the rat was venturing at night. Result: No dice. The rat went for my daughter's science project (with tomatoes) instead. Night #2: Again, baited but not activated. This time, I made sure there were no other "treats" available to distract it. Result: Victory! It took the bait. Lesson learned: make sure the bait is something that the rat can't carry somewhere else to eat. Night #3: Baited and activated. Result: Death came with it. There lay my unwanted guest inside the trap. I was able to drop it in the trash without any trouble. I would call this a success story. :-)
Great ProductNovember 19, 2010
The first night I placed it out, caught a rat. Reset and another one by morning. Then 2 more until nothing left eating bait, or other baits left in regular traps where they used to get away unharmed. Don't use Dollar Tree batteries though, they aren't strong enough I guess because red light keeps blinking. Need fresh batteries.
Worked just as advertisedOctober 27, 2010
Set it up at night, saw result in the morning. Very satisfied. One small item: Use instructions should note that the user should not touch other than the top plastic part after flipping the switch :).

We purchased the electronic trap at Orchard Supply Hardware. My fingers were scared because of the wire-sprung traps nearly hitting my fingers! By the first 3 nights of usage the trap took care of 7 rats, 2 being the parents! All I had to do was to shut off the unit after the rat was dead, dump the rodent into the garbage and reset it for the next victim! I strongly suggest this unit. It works, just follow the directions!
electronic device worksFebruary 23, 2010
First purchased one electronic trap and four bait traps a couple of weeks ago. Put the four out around the house and put the electronic in the bathroom beside one of the bait traps. To date, two mice kills in the electronic trap and 0 kills in the bait traps. Purchased another electronic trap this past weekend. Installed in the garage on Monday. On Tuesday morning two kills. 0 kills in the bait traps. The electronic trap gets my vote.
The best invention everJanuary 19, 2010
I accidently bought this trap for mice instead of rats but its the best money I ever spent. We run a rescue for animals and rodents were into all our food and medical supplies. We can easily kill and reset the trap and get 5 mice a day. We havent caught any rats but we really havent seen any yet. I just came back to the site to order a couple of mouse traps to place around different areas of our facility. We used to buy mice for our wildlife and now we have fresh food every day! (sorry if that is TMI for some of you)

Holla fellas, i am writing this review on my own will, and actually this is my 1st ever review on products. I purchase this electric rat trap on 12/15/09, and as of 12/17/09 i already exterminated 10 huges rats off my place; this device is absolutely amazing, i was not that sure abut it at first then i tried it and it's just working fast and effective....... I am shocked to realize how many of those rodents i had in my place, the device is a true killer. Make sure u get some peanut butter as bait because it loouks like those rats just love it, and keep getting to it.. This is a must have!!!
Elec Rat TrapNovember 04, 2012
I used the Electronic Rat Trap for the 1st time last night. Within 24 hours I had my first kill. I had placed it in my attic where the problem was, the light was blinking green but the trap was empty, peanut butter gone too. The rat was dead the only problem he was about 3 feet away from the trap. I'm happy it killed the rat, but concerned the rat wasn't inside the trap and was a bit hard for me to reach in the small space in my attic. Is this normal for them to escape after being shocked? The reason I didn't use poison was because I didn't want dead rotting rats in my attic so I'm concerned that this rat was out of the trap. Luckily it was only a few feet away and didn't make it far enough to get hidden in a wall or my attic insulation. RESPONSE FROM VICTOR PEST NOVEMBER 05, 2012 Dear Michelle, Thank you for reviewing the Victor® Electronic Rat Trap (model M240). We are sorry to learn that a rat was able to escape the trap. I would like to take a moment to explain how our electronic rodent traps work in order to provide help determine why this unfortunate event may have occurred. These traps rely on a specific sequence of resistance (weight) applied to the electronic metal plates located on the floor of the trap in order to be set off. When baited, sometimes food can drip down onto these plates causing false resistance. The false resistance will allow the trap to set off before the rodent is completely inside the trap allowing it to escape. To avoid this we suggest using a very small amount of peanut butter or other sticky spreadable bait (about the size of a pea) smeared on the inside of the back wall of the trap. If bait or any other type of debris accumulates on the electronic metal plates we recommend that they be cleaned. To clean your trap: • Remove the batteries. • Wipe the plates of your trap with a damp cloth – water only, no soaps or detergents (soaps and detergents will repel rodents). • Allow trap to air dry. • Replace the batteries (make sure the batteries are fresh!) We hope you find this information to be helpful. If you have tried cleaning your trap and still have problems please let us know at 1-855-5-VICTOR (1-855-584-2867) so we can assist you. Reviewer: Rat Zapper
I live in So. CA and we have a number of tree rats that live in our ficus trees in our backyard and they are eating all of my tomatoes from our garden. I know that these traps are for in door use but I used it outside where we are having our issue and last night we had our first kill (rat). When I went to reset the trap it just kept buzzing when I turned it back on and I was concerned that it was broken. So I cleaned it out and it seems to be working again properly. We will see how tonight goes again. Instead of using the messy peanut butter I am using peanuts and a small piece of salami (worked last night I figured I would keep using it - my kids dropped a piece on the ground one time and we saw a rat eating it). Hopefully the trap lasts because I know there are a lot rats out there in our yard and neighbors yards (citrus trees). I want to see multiple kills with this unit for the price I paid for it. One question - does the trap keep zapping the rat even after it is dead? I don't want the batteries to ware out fast. It would be great if you made a trap that you could recharge and then we could skip the batteries. Thank you. RESPONSE FROM VICTOR PEST AUGUST 15, 2012 Thank you for submitting your online review of the Victor® Electronic Rat Trap (model M240). We are happy to hear that this trap is working so well for you. Please keep in mind that this trap is designed for indoor use only and is not meant for outdoor use. Any moisture that gets into this trap can damage the trap and prevent it from working properly. This trap will, in fact, deliver the electric current for several minutes after the rat has gone into the trap. We hope this information has been helpful! If you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to contact our Consumer Relations Team at 1-855-5-VICTOR (1-855-584-2867). Great, until it suddenly stopped workingApril 15, 2012
First off, this device kills clean. First night out - number one. Second night out - number two. Third night out - number three! Fourth night, something went weird. It made a clicking sound then now nothing. Used it less than a week. I still have at least one more mouse to get rid of, but can't with a faulty device. Will contact customer service. Other than that, it's superior to any other killing device or poison. It kills clean, no blood, just a dead rodent in the trap. RESPONSE FROM VICTOR PEST MAY 29, 2012 Thank you for your online review. We are very excited to hear about your success using the Victor® Electronic Rat Trap (model M240). To be effective this trap relies on a specific sequence of resistance against the metal plates on the floor of the trap. Through every day use it is common for debris (old bait, dust, dirt…) to accumulate on the metal plates, adding additional resistance. When this happens and a rodent enters the trap the debris will cause the trap to fire too soon or not fire at all allowing it to escape. It is recommended to clean out your trap between uses. To clean your trap: • Remove the batteries. • Use a damp cloth to wipe out the inside of the trap (water only – soaps and detergents can repel rodents). • Allow to air dry. • Replace the batteries. We hope this tip helps get your trap back in working order to catch that last rodent! If you try cleaning your trap and still experience trouble please do not hesitate to contact us at 1-855-5-VICTOR (1-855-584-2867). Great Customer ServiceJuly 30, 2011
My trap worked several times just as described so I was able to mothball it for many months. With summer here, I pulled it out for another tour of duty and it wasn't working right (light would blink w/no catch, buzzing, etc.) even after cleaning the inside. It's understandible things go bad, and would have left me at a 2 or 3 rating. I called the folks at Victor and they are sending out a replacement free of charge! Remember, keep your store reciept! The customer service is what took me to a solid 4. If there were a seperate customer service rating, it would have been a 5.

have gotten 3 thus far...still going...it works...hardest part thus far was trusting that rat was dead before picking up trap, and then dumping rat into garbage...ugh...but it works...they are thus far dead as a doornail
after a while it's finally working!November 09, 2010
I guess the dang rats were either wary or smart but for a while they avoided this trap. Then the other morning I noticed a light flashing and a long tail sticking out! Wow! It worked! After dumping Willard #1 into a plastic grocery store bag the unit was put back in the same location. Next day, Willard #2 with an even LONGER tail! Oh my goodness, how many more Willards are there??
good the first time but it won't work anymore.February 18, 2013
I bought the trap about six months ago and caught a rat in it and then later a mouse. I take the batteries out when it is not in use. I found evidence of rodent so I tried to set the trap. I put in brand new batteries, triple checked to make sure they were in right but it won't turn on. I don't know what is wrong. I don't have the receipt anymore to send it back. I think I probably got a defective one since most of the reviews are very good. I would try the product again. I demoed a shed in the back yard, it is all fenced. After seeing rat sign, I bought the Victor 50 several months ago, baited it but these rats are smart. They ate away the wire connection on the plate thereby disconnecting the circuit and made their way to the peanut butter and got off scott free. SInce then I sealed up every nook and cranny with concrete and wore and used kill traps and a silenced .177. I've killed at least a dozen. I don't know where they are coming from. So they got smart with the kill traps, so I soldered that eaten connection on the Victor and will try it tonight. Nasty vermin and smart. RESPONSE FROM VICTOR PEST JULY 29, 2012 Dear Paddy, Thank you for submitting your online review of the Victor® Electronic Rat Trap (model M240). We are sorry to hear that your trap was damaged by the mice. You should not need to modify this trap in any way for it to work properly. I really want this thing to work, HELP!!!!October 24, 2013
I bought this a few weeks ago, It has still caught nothing. I have a Rat in my house making my life hell, today I discovered a few tomatos eaten by the vermin. One night I heard something fall on the floor came down stairs to find a loaf of newly bought bread chewed up . I have seen this thing several times. He teases me. I bought this trap after reading all the great review, I don't know if it works cuz the animal hasn't gone in it yet. When reading the instructions here and the ones on the box I see here it says to use gloves. My scent has got to be all over this thing, not sure what to do about that. I don't think it says that on the box, it also says I can put peanut butter on back of trap thru little holes. But on here i see it says to put it in or on something. Also when I start it up it clicks and buzzes. For a long time, I haven't timed it but it just clicks and buzzes, pretty sure over 5 minutes one time, one time I waited a few minutes for it to stop and gave up and went to bed. We caught it in a live trap once. Without bait in it. I put rat outside trying to decide what to do with it and my golden retriever let it go, it apparently got back in the house, it's smart. It will go under my table In full view of me and only after I get up and go towards it it will dart under the couch where I had been sitting. I really want this trap to work, I was excited at the thought of this thing dead and out of my house, and I would rather not use poison, which is the last possible thing I can think to use. RESPONSE FROM VICTOR PEST OCTOBER 28, 2013 Any dirt or debris on the metal plates of the trap will cause the trap to not be able to sense the rat when it goes inside. However, it may also cause the trap to think there is a rat inside, which could cause the longer buzzing. When first turning on the trap, the green light should blink once, and the trap should buzz for just a few seconds. In this situation, we would recommend cleaning the trap by removing the batteries, wiping the metal plates with a damp cloth and allowing the trap to air dry before reinserting the batteries. Once the trap has been cleaned, place just a small amount of bait, such as peanut butter, on the back wall of the trap. To help lure the rat to the trap, you may also want to place a small amount of peanut butter at the entrance of the trap. If you have done this and are still hearing that longer buzzing, please do not hesitate to contact us. This trap is covered by a one year warranty, and our Consumer Relations Team is available at 1-855-5-VICTOR (1-855-584-2867) to further assist you. We are sorry that you have yet to catch this rat again, but we are confident that we can help win this battle. Best Regards,SusanConsumer Relations RepresentativeWoodstream Corporation
Nothing YetNovember 14, 2012
I have been using this for about a week so maybe it is too soon to tell. I installed 2 sonic repellers a few days before I baited the trap. The repllers seemed to scare away the rats for a while but a smaller thinner albino type rat appeared to be immune to the sound and I baited the box with peanut butter. First night out, green light was flashing - but no more bait and no rodent found in the box. I baited and reset it again. Next night - no bait, no rodent, no green light flashing. Third night - bait is in tact but covered with ants and no green light, yet an increase display of rodent crap. They are even crapping in the cat's liter box. RESPONSE FROM VICTOR PEST NOVEMBER 14, 2012 Thank you for your online review of the Victor® Electronic Rat Trap (model M240). We are sorry that this trap has yet to provide a catch. Typically when we hear that a rodent has been able to eat bait and escape it is due to a misfire. Misfires will occur when any type of debris (bait, dirt, dust, etc…) has accumulated on the electronic metal plates located on the floor of the trap. The Victor® Electronic Rat Trap is triggered by specific sequence of resistance (or weight) placed upon these plates. Sometimes when the traps are baited, food or debris will drip down onto the plates causing a false resistance. The false resistance will trigger the trap before the rodent is completely inside allowing it to escape. • Replace the batteries (make sure the batteries are fresh!) Unfortunately, this product is a failureJuly 21, 2013
I bought a Victor Electronic Rat Trap at Lowe's along with a new set of batteries for it. I had to assime the batteries weren't included, but the packaging says nothing about that. I baited the trap with peanut butter on the back wall and turned it on. The LED came on and I heard a click and buzzing sound. A fter a moment, I heard another click and the LED went out and the buzzing stopped. So far all seems normal. I placed the trap along a wall where I've seen rats. The location is indoors, beautiful weather outside, In the morning the bait was gone and the trap was empty. I baited the trap again and got the same outcome the next night. I then carefully followed the cleaning procedure listed on this site. I baited the trap again and got the same result on the third night: no bait and no rat. So I went back to Lowe's and exchanged the unit for another of the same model. The new unit acted identically to the first one in all ways. I baited the new trap and left it overnight. You guessed it: no bait and no rat. I have to conclude that this product is a design failure. The buzzing noise, etc. tells me that the high voltage power supply is probably working, so it must be the sensor / trigger circuit that doesn't work. So the next step is to take it apart and redesign the trigger circuit so that it actually works. What a pity, since the product idea is great. RESPONSE FROM VICTOR PEST July 21, 2013 Thank you for your online review of the Victor® Electronic Rat Trap (model M240). No threat to the ratsFebruary 18, 2013
I have used the smaller electronic mouse traps for several years with great success...so I bought 3 rat traps for the big guys. I have tried all sorts of bait and not a single rat has been killed. I did however find a tiny dead mouse in one. RESPONSE FROM VICTOR PEST FEBRUARY 25, 2013 Thank you for taking the time to submit your online review of the Victor® Electronic Rat Trap (model M240). We are sorry to hear that you have not yet seen the desired results with this trap. With this trap, it is very important that the metal plates be clean of any debris. We recommend using just a small amount of peanut butter on the back wall of the trap. This will help ensure that bait does not get on the metal plates which will adversely affect the performance of the Victor® Electronic Rat Trap. To clean your trap: • Remove the batteries. • Wipe the plates of your trap with a damp cloth – water only, no soaps or detergents (soaps and detergents will repel rodents). • Allow trap to air dry. • Replace the batteries (make sure they are fully charged) We hope this information helps. I have a question about my trapJanuary 01, 2013
Reviewer: Toni Flaherty
Please advise if my trap is working correctly because I've yet to catch anything. I bought my Victor Electronic Rat Trap on 11/24/12. I checked the batteries & they're working but when I turn it on, the light comes on & goes right off. I can hear it humming. After about 10 seconds (if that) the humming stops. No noise of any kind is emitting from the trap. Is this what is supposed to happen? I really have a rat problem & after paying $44.99 at Ace Hardware, I should have bagged at least one rat. What should I do? RESPONSE FROM VICTOR PEST JANUARY 02, 2013 Dear Toni, Thank you for your online review of the Victor® Electronic Rat Trap (model M240). The light flashing as you described as well as the buzzing that you are hearing when you first turn on the trap are normal and would indicate that the trap is functioning properly. We are sorry to hear that you have not yet caught any rats. Trap placement is very important with this, or any trap. Make sure to place the trap along a wall, as rodents tend to prefer traveling along walls, rather than out in the open. Also, the trap should be baited with a small amount of peanut butter along the back wall of the trap. You may also want to put a small amount of peanut butter in the entrance of the trap to help entice the rats to the trap. You will also want to make sure that no peanut butter or any other debris is located on the metal plates inside of the trap. We hope this information has been helpful. Non-Functional from the startJanuary 22, 2011
Just purchased this from Home Depot for $47.95. Got home opened it up, nearly all plastic and made in China was my first clue. No worries, I figured I'd give it a try. Put some new C batteries into the unit which was kind of hard to do with finesse in order to not break the unit. The area which allows batteries to be inserted is pretty tight and if you force anything into the space your liable to break the connectors (do so with extreme caution). Put the batteries in, placed a small amount of peanut butter at the back of the unit between the holes and turned the unit on. This is was becomes maddening. The units green light comes on and then off, then on and off continuously and each time you hear a clicking each time the unit cycles on and off. No mouse or rat is going to enter if it's hearing this not to mention the flashing light. Because there are NO real instructions or troubleshooting on the package or included with the unit I'm forced to read this worthless forum and look for some help. Nothing is touching the metal plates, no dust or debris, though the black conduit lines that run from the top down to the bottom plates weren't in their tracks so I pushed them back in (again Chinese construction); still no luck. I don't anticipate seeing this posted on the forum site as it's a bit too honest and detailed for their liking but it just goes to show you how hard customers will work to get a product that actually functions. I intend to give it a go one more time and return this defective unit and try again. Though it's tempting to vote with my wallet and simply buy a competing brand that works the first time around. I've copy and pasted my written response here and I'll be posting it to my Facebook page, business Facebook page, and multiple blogs including additional forums if I don't actually see it posted on the Victor site. I'm all about balanced feedback that isn't skewed. If this has worked for you congrats and glad you're rodent free, for me I'm still trying to give it a go. Best of luck. RESPONSE FROM VICTOR PEST JANUARY 25, 2011 Thank you for sharing your experience with the Victor® Electronic Rat Trap (model #M240). On my 2nd unit in 24 hrs, and I'm literally watching a mouse eat the bait inside of it right now. The first unit was faulty and didn't start up. This unit started up but isn't coming through with the kill.Don't believe they hype. If this review is not posted due to "submission guidelines" I'll be sure to add it to my social network posts. RESPONSE FROM VICTOR PEST NOVEMBER 9, 2010 Thank you for your review on our Victor Electronic Rat Trap (model M240). This trap will typically act in this way if there is something touching the metal plates. It is very important that no dirt or debris of any kind touches these plates, or it will set off the trap. If the trap is prematurely activated before a rat enters the chamber, it will not reset and therefore will not provide expected results. This being said, it is important to clean your trap between uses. To clean your trap: Remove the batteries. Wipe metal plates with a damp cloth (water only, no soap or detergent, this will act as a deterrent to the rats). Allow your trap to air dry and replace the batteries. Victor® Electronic Rat Trap - Frequently Asked Questions
What position should the switch be in to turn it on?
For the Victor® Electronic Rat Trap (model M240), the on position is a dash “-“ and the off position is an “O”.
Is the buzzing/clicking normal?
The buzzing and slight clicking sound with the Victor® Electronic Rat Trap is normal during the start-up of the trap. When you first turn the trap on, the green light will blink momentarily and then you will hear the buzzing or a slight clicking sound indicating that you trap is working properly and starting up.
How do I bait it?/What should I use to bait it?
To bait the Electronic Rat Trap, first make sure the trap is turned off. Place the bait along or on the back wall of the trap. Be sure to use gloves or a tool to bait so your scent is not transferred onto the trap. We’ve carefully researched dry pet food and found it an excellent lure. Other dried baits (nuts, dehydrated fruit, etc.) can also work well. Goopy Bait Note: Please don’t place moist or goopy bait in your Electronic Rat Trap. If you plan on using goopy bait, like peanut butter, place it on the back wall with a Q-tip. (Otherwise you may goop the electronics and/or falsely trip the system.)
How do I clean the trap?
Through repeat use and baiting, dust and debris can settle on the metal plates inside the trap, so we recommend that you clean your trap between each use. To clean the trap: • Turn the power switch off and remove the batteries • Wipe the metal plates with a damp cloth (use water or unscented dish detergent only). • Allow the trap to air dry completely. • Replace the batteries and turn the unit back on for repeated use.
Can it be used outdoors?
The Electronic Rat Trap is recommended for indoor use only. This trap was designed and manufactured to be used indoors and not exposed to the elements. If this trap is used outside, the unit could potentially short out due to weather conditions, such as rain.
