Gopher trapping can be done at any time of year, but generally is easiest and most effective during Spring & Fall. Once gopher activity is detected it is important to move quickly as pregnant females can be caught before giving birth to her family.
Traps are most effective when properly placed in the gopher tunnel to snare the unsuspecting gopher in the spring-triggered loop. The hole should be covered up with dirt so that it appears as if the trap is part of the runway.
When used correctly, traps produce a catch within 48 hours. It is best to move the trap to another location in the runway if you do not catch a gopher in this timeframe.

We started having gophers attack our soccer field, which obviously presents a huge safety issue for us (foot/ankle injuries) on top of it just being awful for the field of course.
I purchased two of the BlackBox traps 4 days ago, and have killed 3 gophers already. I had to learn the method of having just a slight bit of dirt built up in front of the trap so that the gopher wouldn't dig under the bar...but I'm 100% happy with this product and VERY thankful I didn't slog through so many other methods I hear people try that don't seem to solve their gopher problems. Buy this trap, it works! I have trapped many gophers with the regular gopher traps but this one beats them all. There is this one gopher that has been destroying my yard for the past 8 months. I have used the sub-terrain poison, placed multiple site traps, flooded with water, got my shovel out and dug up its tunnels. I even went and got some firecrackers and every morning and evening I would set off several sub-terrain explosions (Reminds me of "Caddy Shack"). The gopher just seemed to laugh at me. I have some friends that use a professional exterminator but they stated that they still have a gopher problem.
The solution, I purchased this "Black Box" trap. It cost more, is much bigger and more invasive than the conventional traps. I set the trap in the evening and by the next evening that 8 month problem gopher was a dead gopher. It's worth every dollar that I spent on them and more. Make sure that you follow the instructions and make sure that you use two traps per site as recommended.
