I put a small amount of peanut butter on the yellow part of the trap, set it, and placed the bait area against the wall and the trap perpendicular to the wall, and the next morning, a mouse! We have two little dogs so placement was critical (they love peanut butter) and I placed them out of reach of them. I guessed the little mouse was hiding in the pantry where our water heater was behind so I set two traps, one on each side of the door exiting to the kitchen. I set one trap by the garbage can and one on top of our kitchen hutch where the doggie treats rest (all had mouse poop signs). Heh heh it's days were numbered (to one!) One point, be aware these traps have two settings, firm and sensitive, sensitive is a monster to handle but to me was worth the extra hassle- just be careful! Good luck.

I have been using these professionally since they came out. The secret with trapping is with placement....placement of the bait and placement of the trap. You should only apply a small amount of fresh peanut butter on the trigger so the mice have to engage the trap to get it, and you should always place the traps perpendicular to the wall so that the trigger is against the wall. You can also place and object over the trap similar to a lean to to enhance the effectiveness of the trap. I use these all the time and would recommend them highly to pros and homeowners alike. D.
