PLEASE, PLEASE never discontinue this gold-standard "metal petal" trap. I agree with the previous writer that other traps, even your "easy set trap", do not work as well. I just had an infestation with many adult and baby mice. The easy set often allowed them to take the bait without setting off the trap. BUT WORSE, they mostly didn't kill the mice instantly. I'd hear the trap go off and the next morning the poor baby was still alive!! This happened repeatedly, and not just with the baby mice.

 

The only traps I will use are you metal petal variety (getting harder to find in stores) and the live trap varieties (my husband thinks the live ones I release outside just come right back in .. but after awhile, the killing just gets to me).

I've tried a number of other traps over the years--some "easy set"--and I come back to this Victor trap of my great-grandfather's era every time. A lot of the new "easy set" types--including the new Victor with the big yellow plastic plate--are easy set for a reason: they're hard for the rodent to set off. I had a couple of those in my cupboards, and the mice ate all the peanut butter out of them, dragged them around, and even chewed on the yellow plate without setting them off.
Yes, this tried and true Victor has a hair trigger, and I jerk my hands away every time I set it for fear it's going to go off, but that's what makes it great. I've caught six mice in the last two days, and I just reset them.

As to the disposable traps that other companies sell?? There's no way I'm paying nearly $4.00 per mouse just to throw the whole mechanism in the trash!

They always say, "Build a better mousetrap, and the world will beat a path to your door." Well, so far, no one has.

I've used several different brands and your design is by far the most effective in the killing of house mice

I'm new to 'home ownership' and we bought a house on 1 acre, in the forest. Guess what? The mice like our place also. I noticed some 'droppings' while cleaning up in the unfinished basement so I bought 1 large trap, 4 smalls ones and in 24hrs 3 traps had...relieved me of 3 rodents.

 

It's me against the rodents and I've got Victor; rodents don't have a chance.

My husband bought another brand and he had mouse traps ALL over the house! In every corner you can think of -- and all the mice did was eat the peanut butter off. I told him, it's like we are giving them a dinner plate!

 

I couldn't remember the name of the mice traps we bought in the past until I did an internet search. Your mouse trap design has changed a little, but it still works great! I put two down in the kitchen as soon as I got in from Wal-Mart...where I purchased them, and with in 1 hour....1 hour...we caught a mouse! Amazing!!

I just happened upon your website and realized that you need to hear this story: I first met my husband approx. 14 years ago. Soon after getting married, we moved to a house with a full basement and in a rural area.

 

When we started having problems with mice getting into dresser drawers, etc., he told me to get some "Victor" traps and he would take care of the problem.   I promptly bought the first traps I found (which were not Victor's) and brought them home. He told me they would not work, and I thought he was crazy and told him to use them anyhow. He baited and set them....and days later, nothing was happening.

 

After much arguing, I went on a hunt for "Victor" traps. When I brought them home, he said, "Now watch this!" He baited and set them.....and no kidding, within probably 20 minutes, he had his first mouse.

 

Needless to say - we use only VICTOR traps now, and I have been telling this story to people ever since. I have never had one person come back to me and say that my husband was wrong. Fascinating!!
