Mole and Gopher Traps: Instructions for Setting and Baiting

0645 Plunger Style Trap | 0631 OUT O'SIGHT® Mole Trap | 0611 Easy Set Gopher Trap

Model 0645 Plunger Style Trap

NOTE: Safety pin should be reinserted whenever un-sprung mole traps are removed from ground.

1. To identify active mole tunnels, flatten out all tunnels. Wait 24 hours. Tunnels that resurface are most likely the active tunnels. Set traps in these locations. 2. Make a depression in the roof of the main tunnel by pressing down with your thumb.
3. Center the trap on the tunnel, with the trap pan directly over the depression you’ve made with your thumb. 4. Push trap down until spears have bottomed out.
5. Preset spear holes by plunging spears up and down until they travel easily to the bottom on their own. 6. Before setting the trap, make sure the firing latch is OUTSIDE the pan.
7. Holding the trap frame in place, rapidly pull upward on T handle until the firing latch snaps over the pan.  Ease T handle down until latch catches. 8. Trap is set.  If necessary, apply slight downward force to ensure pan is fitting IN the thumb depression and is contacting the roof of the tunnel.
9. Trap has fired.  Remove mole.

Model 0631 OUT O'SIGHT® Instructions for Mole Traps

Out 'o Sight Mole TrapThe presence of moles will be indicated by mounds of soil created as they construct their tunnels.

To locate tunnels in frequent use, clear away a mound of soil and probe for the opening usually a short passage that leads down a few inches to the main tunnel.  Place mole traps in this tunnel.

To Place the Mole Traps:
Dig a hole down to main tunnel.  Make certain that hole is no larger than the mole trap and that it is aligned with straight section of the tunnel.

Build a mound in center of hole using loose soil.

Place mole traps in the hole, pushing down firmly until it rests on mound.  Fill in tunnel entrances with soil.  Release safety hook.

NOTE:  Place a box or board over trap to avoid danger to children and animals.

To Set the Mole Traps:

Place setting levers on mole traps spring as shown.

Carefully draw setting levers together.  This will require some strength.

When levers are fully compressed, place end of locking bar on trigger pan.  Temporarily set the safety hook around top of other mole trap leg.

Remove setting levers and place mole traps in mole runway.

Release safety hook only when trap is properly positioned.

Note: To reduce sensitivity and increase trigger tension, bend trigger pan slightly with pliers.

Caution should be taken when setting this product so that injury does not occur. Keep out of the reach of children.

With thumb positioned behind jaws "B", press down on upper frame (arm) "C" until closed end of trigger bar "A" engages under lower frame (base) "D" (Illustration 2).
With thumb of other hand, press down on open end of trigger bar "A" to hold trap set, and engage pan "E" over ends of trigger bar (Illustration 3).

Place set trap(s) in gopher hole flush with tunnel bottom.  Secure trap by wire or cord to a stake positioned outside of tunnel entrance to prevent gophers from dragging traps along tunnel.  Leave a small diameter hole in the center of the tunnel between the two gopher traps (Illustration 4).

Caution:  When setting or handling set gopher traps, keep fingers away from jaws.  Keep gopher traps away from children and anyone unfamiliar with their use.
