Expert Tips

Expert Tips

     1.  Location, Location, LOCATION!Placement of Mouse Trap - victorpest - rodent control - all about traps

The most important rule for the effective use of traps is good placement location. Start by thoroughly inspecting your home and determining the high-activity areas of rodents.

     2.  Number of Traps

The most common trapping mistake is not using enough traps. For only a couple of rodents, several traps are not too many. The Victor® mouse traps should be placed in areas of high activity or along walls where rodents primarily travel at two to three foot intervals. For more severe infestations, traps should be placed close together and in double sets about one inch apart. It is not recommended to place a snap trap next to an electronic trap because it will reduce your results.

     3.  Importance of the First Night

Statistics show that more rodents are trapped on the first night than any other night, so plan strategically. After three or four nights of trapping, the amount of rodents caught may drop to zero. For this reason, it is essential to use a large number of traps on the first night.

     4.  Offer Multiple Bait Choices

Individuals in a rodent population search for different types of food. For mice, anything high in protein like peanut butter, chocolate or hazelnut spread is a great option. For rats, try peanut butter, bacon, dry pet food, nuts, fruit or bacon. Also, nesting materials like dental floss, cotton or string are great options. Try to use whatever bait or nesting material the rodents are currently feeding on or using to build nests, but feel free to provide multiple alternative options as well. peanut butter - victorpest - rodent control - all about traps

     5.  Don't Over Bait:

Only a small amount of bait is needed to catch a rodent. Do not use more than a pea sized amount. If a large amount of bait is used, the rodent has a greater opportunity to steal the bait without tripping the trap. Also, a large amount of bait will cause the trap to be falsely tripped without any interaction with the bait pedal or a rodent even being present.

     6.  Monitor Activity

Check traps regularly and continue to trap until signs of rodent activity dissipate.

     7.  Always Wear Gloves

Human odors on traps are not likely to deter rodents but to be sure, always wear gloves or use a tool such as a Q-tip or toothpick to bait. Also, for personal hygiene and biohazard awareness, disposable gloves should always be worn when installing or recovering any traps.
